Between this and his influence over the fate of immigration reform, is Rubio the new de facto leader of the GOP? No.

The focus, wisely, is on convincing middle-class voters more broadly that theyll do better with the GOPs limited government agenda. I cannot take Rubio's smaller government rhetoric seriously as long as he's out in front on comprehensive immigration reform.
The two policies are in no way compatible.

Rubio is not "out in front on comprehensive immigration reform."
He is out in front on amnesty and he has plenty of Republican support to make it happen.

Rubio’s romance with Amnesty and Cantor’s romance with no child left behind can only denote that Conservatism Inc. or GOPe is dying or dead. Their only ideas are from 30 years ago and have failed. Bury them soon and let’s start on something new and relevant.

Conservatism, IMO, has just entered a decade or two in the wilderness. We are going to have to rebuild our own party and take the GOP out at the kneecaps in order to take this country back. And the sooner we all get onboard with that the better.
To: Buckeye McFrog
During that 2 decades the illegals will amnestied and this country is lost. It will only be recovered by a massive reset event such as total collapse of world markets, a civil war, or a man made epidemic to thin the heard and wake people up. We can only hope that whatever happens does on a world wide scale so we are not vulnerable from the outside while we reset.

In English or Spanish?
Per a related thread yesterday, BOTH. It will be delivered in English and in Spanish.
Ain't multiculturalism grand!
==
As for his amnesty stance: Either he is playing the 'conservatives' who are jumping on his bandwagon or McCain and the rest of the gang are playing him.
If he actually believed 'securing the border' is such as priority, why isn't he insisting that it be done NOW with existing laws, rather than another package of new laws?
[Most of us already know that no set of politicians, either on Capitol Hill or in the White House, Democrats or Republicans, are going to secure the border. Per one thread, HSD Sec (Napolitano) will 'determine' when the border is secure. LOL, Yeah, right. Napolitano declared that several years ago.]

So, apparently 2016 is his turn.
Hard to say, at this point.
Christie, jBush, and Rubio are being touted as 'the one' for the next election.
Of course, half of those from 2012 will also try again, at least in the early stages of the 2016 race.

Exit question: Between this and his influence over the fate of immigration reform, is Rubio the new de facto leader of the GOP?He speaks bettert spanish than Jeb Bush, McCain is almost bound to be in his corner, and they can point to his 2012 Tea Party credentials.
Like it or not, he's all alone on the fast track.

Rubio is proof the GOP is already throwing 2016 for the Dems. This Amnesty Liberal will be a disaster

IMO, Rubio is a stalking horse.
He’ll suck all the air out of the room from conservatives for the next couple of years, then gracefully step aside when his mentor, Jeb Bush, throws his hat into the ring.
We’ll see.

This could be the kiss of death for Rubio. In the past, the Repubs that give the response to SOTU are left in the mud. This isn’t some sort of launching pad as some seem to believe.

I agree that Cruz would give the better response, but many believe this is some sort of a launching pad to Prez. Cruz is a Canadian, he can't be Prez. I disagree that the response is that important. I would rather have someone verbally dismantle Obama that worry about the Prez race 3 years from now.
Cruz is my Senator, I love him so far. A lot can happen between now and 2016. Usually, people burn out if the peak too soon before the election. I would be surprised if Rand Paul, Rubio, Paul Ryan, Christie, and other usual suspects even last till 2016. It almost always turns out to be someone we aren't talking about right now.

Hell deliver a GOP address that speaks from the heart,"
Cry a little tear for me, Rosemarie. Yeah, that's what we need from the `loyal opposition', more emo from Boehner & Co.
