Exclusive--Senate Letter: No Vote Until Hagel Hands Over Info on Foreign Cash
Breitbart ^ | 2/6/13 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 02/06/2013 8:13:51 PM PST by Nachum

The nomination of former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) to Secretary of Defense has been held up due to Hagel’s failure to turn over required documents to the Senate Armed Services Committee, even after a letter prompting him for those documents. Those documents concern Hagel’s stream of income from foreign sources; obviously, being in a sensitive position such as Secretary of Defense, Hagel must be cleared by the committee of any possible financial entanglements with suspicious foreign sources.

On Wednesday, 25 Senators sent Hagel a letter with the following text, obtained exclusively by Breitbart News:

Dear Senator Hagel,

On January 29, two days before your confirmation hearing, you received a request, via email, from several Senators on the Senate Armed Services Committee for additional information necessary to fairly assess your nomination to be Secretary of Defense. The written copy of the letter (delivered the next day) was signed by six Senators, including the Ranking Member of the Committee. The letter requested that you respond to the request before the hearing, so that you could then answer questions concerning your responses.

Many good reasons not to support this nomination; hope they stand on all of them. They have put down a ‘red line’ on this issue. Can only wonder. . .if; how long. . .will they ‘hold’ - to principle.

Hagel may not make it. He is hiding something that he does not want to disclose.

He is not in compliance with the IRS’ Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Act of 2012. (The only reason I know of this is because I’m married to a Canuck who has a small checking account in CDN used when she goes to visit her Mum.)

They’ll crack. Even Ted Cruz will buckle. There isn’t a man/woman with a spine left in the Republican party.

This piece of utterly incompetent sub-medocrity has no business being close to anything that requires any intelligence or insight. He has reversed himself on each and every single position he’s been questioned about, sometimes on the fly...and while that may be viewed as an asset in our “up is down” Orwellian world, I can’t believe he has a single shred of credibility remaining.

As a native Nebraskan I’ve never understood how the state (even given the Omaha-Lincoln faction) gets suckered by these liberal democrats in “Moderate Republican” clothes. Hagel, Kerrey, Nelson...all the same.

My theory is that being a small rural state makes people want to act sophisticated and show that they aren’t hicks or yokels so they bend over backwards to support someone who sounds ‘moderate’ but in fact is way to the left. I’ve got great respect for Nebraskans, but they need to quit playing Charlie Brown when Lucy holds the football, they get screwed every time...

From the comments at the site:

“Because he can’t legally provide financial information about a company or organization that he didn’t control. That information is non-public. He told the senators to check out the IRS returns of these companies, if they wanted info about their ownership or control.”

Is this so?

Crock of shiatsu. If someone asks you to disclose what countries have given you $5000 or more each year, how hard would that be?

60/40 his nomination is “withdrawn”.

Not a problem of Ozero. He has notebooks full of these losers names. Hagel, Kerry, Napolitano, Sebelius, they all come from the same loser list.

And I thought you were referring to Obama given that he too fits that MO.

“Hagel may not make it. He is hiding something that he does not want to disclose.”

Hagel doesn’t need any stinkin’ documents. He’ll just wait for a recess appointment or an executive order from the poseur, pos LIAR in chief. After all, who’s going to stop him?

Ahhh..... what a turn of phrase. What a terrific string of syllables. It trips easily off the lips.
