Flash Mob Mayhem: Violent Groups Of Teens Leave NYC Businesses In Ruins
CBS New York ^ | Feb 4, 2013 | Staff

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Violent, thieving mobs have been making headlines across the country for the past few years, and now they have hit New York City.

And Maurice Dubois reported in this CBS 2 investigation, the teen mobs have left neighborhoods worried as businesses take matters into their own hands.

Judson Bennett, 78, recently ran into a violent group of teens – often described with the once-benign term “flash mob” – as he made his daily trip to buy a newspaper at his favorite news team.

“I’m approaching the newsstand, and then suddenly there is a tremendous force behind me,” Bennett said.

Bennett ended up with a broken arm.

“I was taken completely by surprise,” he said.

In New York and across the country, the mobs of kids – 20, 30, 40 or more — appear out of nowhere and suddenly charge a newsstand or convenience store.

They ransack, steal and wreak havoc with no consideration for customers, such as Bennett, who get in their way.

“They assemble, they do whatever it is that they’re going to do, and then they disassemble in a matter of minutes,” said Jon Shane, assistant professor of criminal justice at John Jay College. “By the time somebody recognizes what is happening or is injured, if the police are able to respond, it’s slow.”

Our cities are plagued with “feral people”.

While the title says it all, I thought a goodbye was in order.

While I've been a FReeper for well over a decade, I must declare that it is time to part ways. While I have the greatest respect for a great many of you, the days where I can in good conscience remain silent about the issues that set me apart from the rest of FReeperdom have past. For clarity, or perhaps catharsis, I'm not entirely certain which, I'll lay them out on the table an call the ZOT™ down upon myself.

The racism: I just can't handle it anymore. FR has become increasingly racist since President Obama took office, and enforcement has dropped. Now, not a single crime can be reported with an "amish" comment, and I've yet to see a post express embarrassment or shame when lo and behold sometimes the perpetrators turned out to be lily white.

Homosexuality: FR is on the wrong side of history on this one, and I'll just leave it at that.

Mostly though, it's the hate. More and more posts reference violent solutions to political disagreements. Some subtly couched, others make no pretense. I wouldn't be surprised at all if I read in the morning paper that a FReeper murdered a federal bureaucrat or a federal judge.

I've learned so much, from so many of you, and for that I'm grateful. I genuinely and truly wish all of you well, and sincerely hope you all live out the rest of your lives in happiness.

Melas

Yes, and when the metro booty runs dry the ferals will spread out to the burbs and beyond looking for fresh pillage.

Word to the wise for those precious few CCW holders in NYC...or premisis permit holders:

It may or may not be prudent to have a bag of screwdrivers and box cutters available in case you have to start shooting into the crowd. Just sayin'.

Even though numerical superiority may meet criteria for using lawful deadly force, I wouldn't try it in NY or NYC without "insurance" against malicious prosecution for defending your life.

If he/she does intervein, the political establishment will make damn sure he rues the day he did.

While i personally do not like to see these kind of things take place, my empathy for the businesses is zero. They elected the politicians who use the force of law to disarm them and render them unable to defend themselves. My advice to them would be get the hell out while they still can. They stay long enough, they willnot only lose their property, they will lose their lives also.Andone who lives near one of the zoos need to take a lesson of the fate of the Jews in the 1930s Germany.

What would the reaction be, and how would this story be reported, if these were “whiteys” in the flash mob, and minorities were the victims? RACISM, RACISM, RACISM!!!!

I can hear it and see it now!!!!!

If they voted for the crap, I wouldn’t even want them to leave, they’ll just come to a safe red area and infest it, like they’ve already been doing. Let them take the consequences, not spread them to the rest of us.

“Shoot the little bastards on sight.”

In New York City, you can’t.

That’s pretty much the reality of it.

Those who do choose to fight back, get pulled through the ringer. Ask Bernie Goetz about that.

The only solution is to MOVE OUT of NYC, and out of other cities like it...

Just look up flash mobs. They started in 2003 as harmless, stupid, and pointless gatherings. Then look up flash mob robberies. They became a concern in 2011. Safelink or Obama phones started in 2008. Who was elected in 2008 whose claim to fame was community organizing? Who used social media to gather supporters? Who keeps informing the populace of the evils of capitalism? Who got reelected by a majority of Obama phone users, sometimes 100% in certain neighborhoods? Who is looking to infringe on the right to defend one’s self?
Now I do not believe Obama is ordering these mobs up but he is sure pointing the way and enabling these mobs to continue if not grow.

You know it, because Zimmerman wasn’t about a victim defending himself, it was about “raycism” against the innocent lil thug.

Yes, and that will be the flashpoint. Who will be the designated domestic terrorist? The private gun owner or the taker for social justice? Never let a good crisis go to waste.

“Look on the bright side.
These flash mobs are creating conservatives out of NYC liberals and turning gun control supporters into supporters of CCW.”

You’re dreaming, my FRiend.

If anything, the NYC liberals will blame this on right-wingers, Republicans, racism, and — you guessed it — Bush!

If they voted for the rats, they need to stay right where they are, who wants them to come infest safe sane conservative areas, let them reap what they sow. Why should we who fight to keep our rights have these types come infest our areas with their nonsense?

Yes. That was it. I think that is what disturbs me more...not the truth, but being inhibited or prohibited from speaking the truth.

The truth of this (or any situation) might be bad enough, but it is far worse to realize that societal pressure has been brought to bear to the point where the truth cannot be spoken.

And even MORE disturbing is to realize that people are taking it on themselves, buying into it, policing themselves to the point they BELIEVE the non-truth, or the necessity for not recognizing the truth. It is a form of double-think.

Seeing a situation with your eyes. Reality. Then co-existing inside your own brain with no contradiction, the acceptance that what your eyes told you is not the truth, but something very different and contradictory.

It is Orwellian.

Did the victims have any scissors handy?

Three questions:

1) Is it legal to carry concealed scissors in NY?

2) Is there a limit on the size of the scissors you can carry?

3) Is there a limit on how many scissors you can carry?
