The gun-show loophole myth - FBI checks have to be fixed; new laws not needed on private gun sales
Washington Times ^ | January 30, 2013 | Emily Miller

For the first time in 14 years, the CEO of the National Rifle Association (NRA), will testify on Capitol Hill. Wayne LaPierre’s appearance Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee underscores how seriously the nation’s largest gun-owners organization takes the latest assault on the Second Amendment.

Committee Chairman Patrick J. Leahy, Vermont Democrat, invited former Rep. Gabrielle Gifford’s husband, Mark Kelly, among others, to testify for the other side. In his prepared remarks, Mr. LaPierre will say, “When it comes to the issue of background checks, let’s be honest: Background checks will never be ‘universal’ because criminals will never submit to them.”

(This is the last of a four-part series on dispelling gun myths. Click here to read part one: The Assault Weapon Myth.  Click here to read part two The High-Capacity Magazine Myth.  Click here to read part three The Cop-Killer Bullet Myth.)

Currently, a gun owner who goes to a retail shop to purchase a gun from a licensed dealer is subject to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The system, run by the FBI reviews criminal history, mental health and restraining-order records to weed out those who are legally barred from gun ownership.

The gun grabbers’ real goal has always been universal registration, and tracking every gun owner in the country would be a big step in that direction.

“The law already requires licensed gun dealers to run background checks, and over the last 14 years that’s kept 1.5 million of the wrong people from getting their hands on a gun,” said Mr. Obama, when he announced his gun-violence task force results on Jan. 16. “But it’s hard to enforce that law when..."

I have bought half my guns (approx 11) at gun shows. Every one was purchased after a background check.

All Obama will accomplish with banning private sales is jacking up the price of firearms.
He said he wanted to ban the sale of inexpensive firearms during the 2nd debate with Romney.

He thinks he is targeting gang activity and Saturday night specials, but he is putting a price on freedom.
That is what he is really angling at and that is why he said “Inexpensive” rather than “Saturday Night Special”

What Obama will achieve if he is successful is to make it so only RICH people can afford guns.

FUBO!
I think the guy in the single wide trailer or the pensioner on a strict budget have as much 2nd amendment rights as the Kenyan on the hill.

FUBO!

I finally got my gun in Washington, D.C. I brought it home today from the District’s firearms’ registry office.

got it After months of aggravation, hundreds of dollars in fees, countless hours jumping over hurdles, I am now a gun owner and finally exercising my second amendment right to keep arms (bearing arms is still illegal in the nation’s capital).

Emily gets it, This is not about gun control, it is about control.

Once we get universal background checks for private party transfers, we will be just one mass shooting away from registration. Then look for incremental confiscation..........

““Do you really think we want those laws observed?” Said Dr. Ferris. We want them broken. You better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against - then you’ll know this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We’re after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick and you’d better get wise to it. There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt. Now, that’s the system Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”

"What Obama will achieve if he is successful is to make it so only RICH people can afford guns."

Let's say I'm a Chicago gang banger who makes a million dollars a month selling crack cocaine to his pusher homes. Someone needs a new Glock 9mm. There's plenty of customers with no police record willing to go into Schrank's Smoke 'n Gun and purchase a Glock for the right price (plus a few rocks thrown in for good measure). Background checks? What are background checks?

The “gun-show loophole” is an exaggeration designed to foster the false impression that this is how the bad guys acquire firearms.

When one realizes that, to the Slave Party, law-abiding gun owners ARE "the bad guys," then it all makes sense.

[What the gun grabbers are really after are transactions between private individuals trading or selling their personal property.]

Good luck. That’s like trying to record and regulate transactions at yard sales. This would require a police state infrastructure rivaling the old Soviet Union.

So where are all the deaths from guns bought without a backround check at a gun show? Not aware of any high profile ones.

Camel noses and tents....just get’em to vote for SOMETHING and they’ll be back with the argument: Well you voted for THAT.

"Universal background checks" = national gun registration.

You’re truly fortunate. Thusfar, you haven’t gone peanut hunting in the woods with your entire collection, been suddenly attacked by man eating rabbits, and tragically lost all of your guns. Be careful. There’s also been a recent epidemic of Tragic Boating Accidents with similar outcomes.

Then, logically, there is another agenda besides preventing gun violence.
Why does no one confront the libs with this?

"Come on, tell us your true agenda, since what you are proposing in no way addresses the problem you say you are trying to solve?"
