Hmm. From Saddam’s stockpile? Any chance of that, eh . . . ?

Either Syria had uranium-enrichment capabilities nobody knew about, or somebody accidently misplaced 50 tons of enriched uranium, or some other entity pursuing weapons of mass destruction found it expedient to hide evidence across a border.

I’m sure our mass media will put a major effort into finding out which it is. Unless of course there’s breaking Kardashian news that they have to focus on.

From Saddam’s stockpile?

Isn't that the assumption? AFIK, Syria has no uranium enrichment program and did not have one in the past. I remember there were some non-MSM stories about Hussein moving WMD out of Iraq into Syria and Lebanon.

Aw hell no - remember - Bush “lied” about that (although somehow we never hear about how Colin Powell “lied” too...).

I’m sure this is just “volunteer uranium” that sprung up out of the ground on it’s own, just a natural thing...after all Saddam didn’t have any WMD so how could he have any uranium over in Syria?

Oh yeah. /sarc

Saddams “gift” that took so long to ship that we had to pause the war to enable them...

I suspect it is now in Damascus, and that would explain why in Isaiah 17 the destruction of Damascus is forever and “no man will live there again”.

When Damascus gets nuked in the near future, that 50 tons will be scattered like the worlds biggest dirty bomb.

“According to one anonymous official quoted by the Financial Times, ‘Syria is almost certainly in possession of good quality uranium of the type that Iran has been trying to acquire on the international market for years. It would certainly be possible to transfer this from Syria to Iran by air.’”

Soooo...it could, of course, have first been transferred by air from Iraq into Syria! Nice of them to point out how “certainly possible” it is for this uranium to have been Saddam’s.

No worries. The US is backing the rebels who will probably get their hands on it.

I’m trying to figure just how much volume of material we are talking about here... Enriched U is in metallic form, right? And not so far away from Pb in density? IIRC a ton of Pb is a cube about 15 to 18 or so inches on a side. So we’re looking for about fifty times that... Maybe the size of a cord of firewood? About 4x4x8. That sound about right?
