Arnold Schwarzenegger has become the latest Hollywood star to dismiss suggestions that violent movies are to blame for gun massacres such as the recent killing of 20 children in Connecticut.
The iconic action star, who is currently promoting his new film The Last Stand, told reporters it was important to "keep [the two] separate". He said: "[This is] entertainment and the other thing is a tragedy beyond belief. It's really serious and it's the real deal." He added: "We have to analyse how we deal with mental illness, how we deal with gun laws, how we deal with parenting."
The 65-year-old actor, for whom The Last Stand is his first lead role since the end of a seven-year stint as governor of California, said the entire situation surrounding the deaths of 20 children and six staff at the Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut last month should be carefully looked at. "Everything has to be analysed; no stone [left] unturned," he said. "How can we do better with gun laws? If there are any loopholes, if there's a problem, let's analyse it Are we really dealing with the mental problems the right way as a society?"
Schwarzenegger also hinted that the culture surrounding gun enthusiasts might need to change in a reference to Connecticut killer Adam Lanza's mother Nancy, who was murdered with her own assault weapons. "Does a mother need to collect guns and take her little kids shooting?" the actor asked.

Spoken by the infamous Austrian military tank commander that sank his tank in a deep pool of mud!
I'm fine with believing that if someone will explain why it is at the same time unacceptable to show someone smoking in a movie since it is encourages children to smoke.
Been watching some old movies recently, and the characters on-screen are smoking something close to half the time. Amazing to see, in today's world.
I’m surprised there has been little about the fact that Lanza was virtually addicted to violent first person shooter type games. Figured I’d have heard for a ban on those by now.
He became a tank commander during only one year of military service?
He is an idiot. Hollywood is not to blame for why people cant break out of idolatry and worship of everything disgusting- but they make the crack for the addict.
He should not be so proud of being covered with filthy dirty rags.
You are correct. If smoking tends to have young people emulate it, so does mayhem, murder and brutality. ‘Fight Club’ came out and there were numerous incidents of organized fights in schools and other places where youngsters gathered. They wanted the black eyes, broken schnozzes and cuts their “heroes” had. My fix? Ban all entertainment out of Hollywood, instead of taking my rights away. They can get a job. I can’t get another Constitution (worth a shiite).
While they're at it, let them explain why advertisers spend billions of dollars persuading people to buy their brand of beer, cereal, ED drug, cleaning product, etc.
Taking any kind of advice from Schwartzneggar is a waste of time.
He is right... Hollywood, Video games, or guns are not to blame for Newtown shooting.. I blame the person who did it.
did the entertainment industry just admit, by analogy, that advertising on TV and in the movies is a total waste of money?
Mentos mints and diet coke have been around for years. It wasn’t until YouTube mini films exposed that when the two were combined, fun ensued. Copycat experiments flourished.
Exactly. Same for advertising. If it didn't work or have an effect, no one would use the technique of showing people happily using the advertised product. It works because it's how we are wired.
"Monkey see, monkey do" is one expression Mom would use to give us a hard time when "just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean you have to."
Look it up, Arnie. We model what we see, whether good or bad.
So you want to take away their rights??? Is that Big Government???
Videos have no influence over us.
Hey, anyone know how much a Super Bowl ad costs these days?
Hollywood is so full of hypocrites I can’t stand it. They say that their violent movies do not influence crazy people to commit atrocities but then make movies that promote their views like Promised Land to try and influence public opinion. So do movies influence their audiences or not which is it??? I guess it depends on whether they are getting blamed for an atrocity or getting credit for some activist activity.
This coming from a guy who took a $200K donation from an ACS PAC o they could install red light traffic cameras all over his state or big time profit. He may be a good actor but he sucks as a politician.

I’m not sure whose rights you are talking about. Not starting a fight. I said actors can get a job, kids can read a book for entertainment or play with themselves, or get a job. What exactly did you mean?
Just because all my movies glorify killing doesnt make ME responsible. Sure Arnie.
This also includes the aggressive modeling in the media of the sexual revolution as desirable, something you seldom see complained about anymore, since the revolutionaries have won so completely few even remember other ideals once existed.
I just watched it. Looks like fun until someone gets Coke in their eye. /sarc
Nothing like a little self serving to temper judgement.
And Hollywood should stop pointing the finger at us.
Is there any reason in the world that I or anyone else should seriously consider anything that this walking penis has to say...on any matter?
Hell no, they’re just entertainers after all...
Just like Rush.
Videos have no influence over us.
Think again. What goes into a person is what comes out of a person.
MARK 7:21-23
He went on: What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a persons heart, that evil thoughts comesexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.
ENTERTAINMENT......How could Maria ever stand this bozo???
Like mental ill don’t watch his killing spree on the screen. He ought to go back to his mansion in Austria for good and shut up his wide open mouth!!!
One is “entertainment,” and the other “tragedy beyond belief,” as if the extremeness of the latter excludes its relation to the former. Who makes up this senseless crap for dunces to say? Hollywood hammers away at our culture, our sensibilities, our morality and beliefs, but hides from blame behind the curtain of entertainment. Arnold and his associates are mass murderers, influencing broken minds.
Hollywood numbs the mind just another step in dumbing down process.
Show some respect. Don’t you know how hard it was for Schwollenpecker to run Cullyforneeuh into the ground ?
Even back in the “innocent” days of the 1950’s, movies and TV inspired crazes of Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry, etc., “cap pistols”; toy soldiers and toy army guns were the rage. There wasn’t a big market for these type toys until movies and TV made them “famous”.
This influence grew, and the toy weapons became so realistic that laws had to be passed to put orange tips on the guns to distinguish them from real ones.
The big uptick in karate and other martial arts happened in the 60’s and 70’s with the advent of ninja movies and other karate arts stars.
Hollywood is, and has always been, a catalyst for violence.
The difference is, back in the 50’s parents and church taught young people the difference between fantasy and reality, and that killing and violence were wrong.
But there are plenty of todays movies that incorporate violence just for the sake of violence. Where actor dialogue is simply a bridge from one shooting scene to the next. Where chainsaws and hockey masks define the horror and allow the special effects guys to purchase a lot of stage blood for their part in the sequences.
Schwartzenegger loves to dance a little sidestep, like most politicians. He knows it’s b.s. just like we do.
And, we imitate and model people and behaviors we like or admire and thus want to emulate. It's not mindless. We choose what to do and how and often practice to get it "right".
Advertising works. Social media works. Music works. The one stream media's repetition works.
