BERLIN -- Germany's new national firearms registry shows there are 5.5 million guns in legal circulation in the country.
That's an average of four weapons for each of the 1.4 million registered owners.
It is the first time reliable nationwide figures have been collected as previously such data were held by local authorities.
The registry provides a central national database to help police track the buyer and seller of each legally owned gun in Germany.
All European Union countries must have such a registry by 2015.

All E.U. subjects will be disarmed within a year or two after that.
To be finally confiscated at a later date.
I wonder if they will keep the beaches open in the restored Al Andalus?

I wonder what the “real” numbers are. There must be quite a number who know the score when it comes to gun registration.
and how many illegal guns? the ones the thugs and govt goons use?
Hey, Krauts, what the hell is this?
Who's running your government...a bunch of friggin Nazis?
all the western countries are in the process of disarming their populations, while simultaniously flooding the middle east with weapons.
What the heck is going on!?!?!
I feel like we are being set up to be slaughtered.
And every bloody country is a monarchy without a crowed head. Power is concentrated to a remarkable degree. Love Germany, but it IS a police state although the police do not wear jackboots.
Post 8 nails it, we are being set up to be slaughtered.
The EU is forcing firearms registration in all member countries and that is the step towards confiscation and disarming honest citizens. Obama is pushing for the same here in the US. Meanwhile federal agencies , Homeland Security, H&SS, ATF, EPA &others have been buying billions of ammo rounds & hiring armed officers. I think they have a plan and it’s not kind & gentle treatment for we citizens.
Just by coincidence no doubt, Germany has one of Europe's lowest rates of violent crime. Neighboring Luxembourg, which has no legal gun ownership, has one of Europe's highest rates of violent crime. Like I say, just a coincidence no doubt.

LOL. From what the Germans I work with tell me, there are at least 5 unregistered “illegal” guns for every registered one.
I’ve spent a number of years living in Germany, and there are some simple observations to make.
Large cities in Germany....don’t have a major drug trend...like Atlanta, or Dallas, or Philly. Meth has only begun to be seen in use around the country.
Cops in Germany work as a national organization. You don’t have turf battles brewing from city to city or state to state.
Judges and prosecutors don’t work up deals that much. If you’ve done a serious crime....you tend to do the real time. If you used a weapon in the crime....you just added at least two more years onto your sentence....even if you didn’t fire the gun.
From most cities in Germany, I’d be willing to walk around at 11PM at night and not worry about any assault (there are exceptions).
The only new thing here is that there is now a national database.
After all, registration worked out so well under the socialists the last time, what could go wrong?!?
WE ARE NOT THE EU AND NOT ONE INCH!

Actually, the Eurocrats currently in control think they are the EU. The Yankees in New England are de facto Euros.
