IIRC, that was the report in the day or so after the shooting. Then it got changed to the killer used the Bushmaster in the school as the primary weapon.

Unless a Bushmaster has a charging handle on the side and shoots shotgun shells, the weapon recovered from the trunk is clearly not a Bushmaster.
