Things got heated this morning on Morning Joe, when Republican congressman from Kansas, Tim Huelskamp, was asked about his thoughts on gun control following their discussion about the fiscal cliff deal. While Huelskamps opposition to an assault weapons ban was a point of contention, it was his assertion that the tragedy in Newtown, Conn. not be used to further a political agenda that sent Joe Scarborough over the edge.
Stricter legislation about assault weapons wont solve the problem, the congressman said. Its a people problem.
What has bothered me the most as a representative is how this has been politicized so quickly that somehow if we had changed one single law which as I understand it, the state of Connecticut had laws against these kind of things and somehow that would have changed things, Huelskamp said.
Pointing to his own children, Huelskamp noted that video games are an issue, so parents need to be cognizant of what their children are up to. Mental health is also an issue, he said, but its not a gun problem.
Its not a gun problem? Scarborough asked. So tell me, why do Americans need assault weapons? Why do they need these high-capacity clips? Why do they need a bushmaster? Can you tell me why?
Huelskamp countered that thereve been many misleading statements, including on that show.

I guess Schmoo Scarborough can’t handle the truth. Really Schmoo? Obama and the Democrats are above playing politics with tragedy when they play politics with EVERYTHING? Why is their SOUL FOCUS on getting answers to this tragedy on guns, and nothing on the culture, the break up of the family (the Lanzas were divorced), violent media, the mental healthcare system, etc? Schmoo, stop trying so hard to get into Mika Brezinski’s pants and being liked by the rest of the demented MessNBC crowd by agreeing with all their stupidity. You’re starting to look as deranged as Hissy Boy Matthews and Special Ed Schultz.
“... why do Americans need...?”
Because it’s the “Bill of Rights”, not the “Bill of Needs”. Joe, Ed, Keith, Crissy, and all the rest of you, why is this so hard for you to understand?
To protect ourselves against the likes of you, Mister Joe Schmuck."
o tell me, why do Americans need assault weapons? Why do they need these high-capacity clips? Why do they need a bushmaster?
Because it would be hard to overthrow ObaMugabe’s mau mau communist regime with pee shooters.
I say we ban high capacity news channels..
Why not just give these people the honest answer to why high capacity weapons are needed...because we need to have the means to protect ourselves from our own federal government.
The only difference between Mika and Joe is that Mika is smarter.
Don't ask a question when you're not certain of the answer, you rodent faced phony.
At the risk of engaging a moron in debate, I'll nonetheless answer the question: so that there can be no venue in which a person with evil intent can murder school children without surviving a challenge from a heoric armed defender... who might at least buy enough time to save lives.
> Obviously the law is not a barrier to these acts (virtually every perp involved in a mass shooting has broken multiple laws already on the books - even before the law of murder was broken).
> Obviously resources are not a barrier (many shooters have broken their bank to obtain the means to do their deeds)
> Obviously the idea of the shooter being killed during the rampage is expected as part of the heinous acts, so there's no deterrent there. These people are checking out and trying to take as many with him as possible - so that his name becomes known on shows like this one.
So tell me, Mr. Scarborough (et al), how do you expect to legislate an end to this problem? Or do you wish to add to the list of victims in target-rich, arms-free public environments by assuming that having a gun in hand makes a person evil by association.
(rant over)
The same reason why irresponsible, ignorant journalists NEED a TV show.
It didn’t take America long to forget 911.
Somebody please remind these ninnies what our response to 9/11 was:
> Guns were already banned on commercial flights
> Guns were not used during those high-jackings
Despite these facts, we installed armed sky marshals aboard commercial planes. See any parallels??
Scarborough asked So tell me, why do Americans need assault weapons? Why do they need these high-capacity clips? Why do they need a bushmaster? Can you tell me why?
Because AG Eric Holder and P_sident Obama have given thousands of them to Mexican drug lords and other bad guys that use those weapons to kill innocent men, women and children in their own country and to kill our Border Patrol Agents, LEOs and other American civilians.
Its not hard to understand.
Joe sounds exactly like all the other rabid liberals on the network so the transformation is now complete.
Joe, the Liberal RINO. ...he mocked and ridiculed the Republican presidential nominee more than anyone. I would bet he voted for Obama.
we have to back up and attack the language these people use. “need”? This language presupposes someone should not be allowed to have something unless the government agrees they ‘need’ it. Our side can not allow language like this to stand unchallenged. Does anyone really ‘need’ an abortion?
Actually, I think the 2nd Amendment response to all these TV, cable and personal on-air interviews should be “go pick up a copy of the US Constitution, if you are smart enough to know how to do that.” “Then you can take your silly-ass emotional arguments and stick them back up your ass from whence they came.”
We - the collective “we” - those that still believe American individuals (law abiding) have this right, even in the wake of this tradgedy, one of many perpetrated against all the protection of Connecticut’s strict laws and other locales like it, shouldn’t deign to discuss this fundamental right with hysterical ideologues wishing to push an agenda or bump up their sorry assed ratings.
Like the NRA, have a press conference, state your points and stand your ground. And, raise holy hell with your elected representatives to protect your right. Screw the media, screw the gun rights groups. Don’t give them a reason to bump this back into the news cycle.
Yes. The media was chomping at the bit for years to do renew this debate. I think they were planning for this after the previous incidents. They had the talking points and agenda ready. Easily made sure Joe was part of it.
I don’t now about you, but there has never been a dead girl in my office.
So, does Scarborough agree that plying an intern with alcohiol and drugs during a campaign should also be illegal.
It has killed so many....
Another good response that I’ve heard: “Because YOU don’t want me to have them!”
I would have stood up, said “FU, Joe. Why bother having on ANYONE who disagrees with you, A-hole?” taken off the microphone, thrown it in his face, and walked out the door.
Of course Joe Scarbury voted Obama. The guy played the shrewd game of Bbcking Romney long enough to get him nominated and by last April stared to attack him from all angels and he has not back down since.
I challenge every one of these ‘gun control advocates’ to admit that they did not wish that there was an armed staff member at Sandy Hook to confront that evil a-hole! If Scarborough had his kid in that school I guarantee you he would have wanted it! He is full of crap! It’s so politically correct, and easy, to say no guns in school, until it’s your kid who’s in danger. I guarantee you the parents of the deceased children wish there was someone who could have saved their kids!!
+1
Hey Joe, Why do we need 24 hr news channels when years ago we had a 15 minute report in the evening and people were better informed?
She's at least smart enough to know she's supposed squat to pee...nutless Joe needs to learn it so he stops going down his leg like Chrissy M.
all good questions. There are so many questions regarding her death that haven’t been answered (especially about Michael Berkland - the medical examiner at the time)
Joe=poodle with herpes
Now there is an answer to most of our problems. If only we would just turn it off. Turn it all off. Seriously boycott their sponsors. Not just say it. Do it! During the Hurricane I learned to live without TV. I'm sick and tired of all these talking head know-it-alls. The liberals have so screwed up this country. Now the media is trying to help install a dictator. I despise them all and think we should do everything in our power to make them go under. Watch where we spend every penny. Not spend a dime on anything associated with liberals or obama supporters. If one looks out at all those red counties on the election map, we would realize that there are more than enough of us to make a difference. It's really quite simple: mass cable cancellations would do the trick.
Thank you.
Hey Scarborough, we need high capacity magazines to protect ourselves against a tyrannical government and high capacity gang members (for starters). This BS about hunting is just some red herring talking point to take the attention away from the real issue.
Absolutely amazing...
The fact of the matter is that nobody can show me even a single instance of a school shooting by kids in the 1800’s when:
-there were no background checks
-there were no age limits
-there were no waiting periods
-there were no arbitrary gun restrictions
-guns were much more easily accessible to kids
-gun safes practically did not even exist
-gun locks did not exist at all
-lever action guns in skilled hands can fire almost as fast as a semi auto AR.
Even with all of the omission of restrictions on gun ownership during this time period, still not a single person can show me even a single instance of a school shooting during this time.
It’s the culture stupid......it ain’t the guns.
And the Second Amendment was never about duck hunting or target practice; it was about stopping tyranny from taking hold. The Founding Fathers were very clear on this and this can seen in their opinions (”it is the duty of every man to at all times be armed”-Thomas Jefferson) The Second Amendment was meant to be a checks and balances, so to speak, similar to the three branches of government. It was precisely designed to act as a Sword of Damacles, which hangs over the head over every single politician.
“When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”-Thomas Jefferson
You would think the FR Search Engine could find a word like “Huelskamp” in a title. But no. I had to get in from a Google search. Needs work.
