A professor at the University of Texas has sparked outrage by claiming black and Hispanic students are failing academically because they have been raised in single parent homes usually by females.
Law professor Lino Graglia was talking to the BBC when he said he could 'hardly imagine a less beneficial or more deleterious experience than to be raised by a single parent, usually female, uneducated and without a lot of money.'
He said the average black performance on SAT test is 200 points lower than that for the average white student and that among the black population almost three quarters of children are now born outside of marriage.
How well do these kids do in maths and reading is basically it and they do less well.

'And race or segregation or history wouldn't matter one bit if that was not the case.
'No doubt the race and segregation may have a lot to do why that's the case, but it is the case and what to do about it now?
'And admitting them into selective schools with large gaps in qualification is not the answer.'
Graglia is no stranger to controversy and was accused of racism in 1997 after telling a conservative student group that black and Mexican-American cultures 'set children up for failure'.
He said: 'They have a culture that seems not to encourage achievement.
'Failure is not looked upon with disgrace.'

That’s the guy. Not sure how he made it past the UT Regents’ screening process, but I love it.
I’m looking through my bookmarks, will post when I find it.
These authors also contend that Roe v. Wade had the effect of reducing crime a generation later.
With some reluctance, I take their point.
To prevent duplication, please do not alter the published headline, thx.
UT is about to have one less professor
I sincerely doubt it. Professor Graglia is an institution at the UT Law School. His speeches and writings over the last twenty years have gone much further than this - agreeing with the book The Bell Curve, addressing the problems with affirmative action, IQ differences, graduate school admissions of students with low GPAs and test scores, and more.
Name a sacred cow in that general arena of thought and Professor Graglia has barbecued it.
However, here's an older article by Lino Graglia on the problems with affirmative action in academic admissions.
This is UT Austin, the big liberal blight in the middle of Texas, so yes, he probably does. If he doesn't, all it would take is he demands the rich two parent white students share their SAT points. One tenured UT prof teaches 90% of all humans should be killed off with ebola but he hasn't stepped up to the front of the line.
that is awesome.
Black and Latino students are failing because of the attitude and mindset of the Black and Latino communities....the “You’re acting White” nonsense
Of course, whites will be blamed. It’s always white folks fault
>> A professor at the University of Texas has sparked outrage
Screw the “outraged”. I’m “sick and tired” of the “outraged” that are offended by common sense. ESAD, you “outraged”.
The reason America scores so poorly against other nations is because American minority scores are factored in.
If only white male student’s scores are counted, America comes in 3rd instead of 33rd.
The top scoring nations like Singapore and China don’t have minorities to ruin their overall scoring averages.
It’s all about brains or lack thereof.
Neuroscience is the area where people should look for solutions to poor black academic and life performance.
I think you have succinctly stated the facts of the matter. As we all know, though, these are "inconvenient" facts and socially scorned.
I went to high school with a guy who could have become a senator but decided not to run. He was a Christian since he was 12 years old. His father was an alcoholic sharecropper.
Then there are those who grow up in wealthy households who turn out to be worthless.
The bottom line is some are smarter than others and some apply themselves more.
absolutely correct - and it is fatherlessness that has been encouraged by the State.
Remove the father from the house - replace him with a government check.
You don’t get that check if you marry your baby’s daddy.
This is a disease that has decimated black families and has now spread everywhere.
absolutely correct.... however, those kids aren’t being promoted into programs they aren’t ready for, just so some leftists can feel good about themselves.
Most of the arguments we make about race, are actually statements regarding economic class.
I have looked through my bookmarks, amd have not found this particular study-it was footnoted in some long paper I read, and I can’t find it. I will keep looking for my own satisfaction, because I distinctly remember reading it-Prince George’s Co is not a place which otherwise comes readily to my mind.
I have links to other studies showing similar results if you would like them. The concept particularly talked about is “regression to the mean”.
Yes I would be very interested in any citations you might have.
Thanks
