If there were not divorce, then no custody battles and property disputes, yes? Besides, even in such cases, does the government have to be dragged into it at all? AFAICS, it is the people who go to the government (judicial system) rather than the other way around, albeit the government encourages it.

If the man refuses to support the woman and child, should the state step in?
