1. mollifying his base.To the radical progressives the only "just war" for the US to be involved in is one in which we have no national interest or it will harm our interests.
2. Pleasing his saudi (sunni) masters. Both Israel and iran, including their hashemite puppet syria must be destroyed for the sunni caliphate to rule.
You haven’t been paying attention. obama sides with the iranians almost 100% of the time. The saudis collude with Israel way too much.
