The Republican caucus already locked the votes for leadership slots up in conference shortly after the election...

I think that one of the systemic problems with Congress (both chambers) is that the outgoing Congress gets to vote for the leadership of the new incoming Congress. The new people that we vote in don't get to participate in the vote for their own leadership.

Usually, we say that future Congresses are not bound by the votes of prior Congresses, apparently except for the votes on future leadership positions. For some reason, the parties hold their leadership votes during the lame duck session, and not after the new Congress convenes.

“..no backbone and empty scrotum...(hope that doesn’t offend you...)”

A statement like that one, dear granny, only offends those who indeed have no backbone, and do in fact have an empty scrotum.

And I can assure you ma’am that THAT situation, in either case, is NOT something that I need EVER worry about!!! Hahaha!!!

I think you are an absolutely amazing “grannyy” and your post is THE Post of The Month as far as I am concerned!!!!

Bravo, ma’am!!!!

“...When I saw the idiot crying on TV...”

And one last thing - if a man must cry, he should do privately, NOT on National Television, in front of the world, his enemies, and allies who may have to turn to him for support.

It’s unbecoming, it’s unseemly, and it’s just plain unmanly.

I lost all respect for him at that moment as well.

I do believe I NEVER saw Nancy Pelosi crying...as a matter of fact, that lunatic witch was positively GRINNING with her little Botox Skeletor rictus every time I saw her...and still is.

Disagree. Boehner kissing up and capitulating to 0 and the Dims is a HUGE problem.

’ Boehner needs 218 votes to become Speaker again. Seeing as there are 233 House Republicans next Congress, and assuming no Democrats would vote for Boehner as Speaker, if 16 conservative Republicans abstain from voting, Boehner wouldn’t regain the Speakership.

“The Conservative Movement doesn’t realize we only need 16 House votes to block Boehner from becoming Speaker,” Ryun said. “House rules demand nominees for speaker to receive a majority—at least 218 votes—to win election. If 16 members abstain, Boehner only has 217 votes.”’
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/12/05/Only-16-conservatives-necessary-to-unseat-Boehner-as-Speaker-group-says?utm_source=pulsenews&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+BreitbartFeed+%28Breitbart+Feed%29

Since Mr. Boehner seems to be throwing Mr. Ryan and another Representative under his Doom Bus, actually only 10 more votes are needed. Ms. Pelosi may have some honeyed words and promises that may get 10 votes from Tea Party Republicans or loathed Libertarian leaners, who realize they have no future in the House, either as Representatives or lobbyists(tough to get a lobbyist job if the Speaker hates your ass).
I wouldn't tell Mr. Boehner that his ship is sinking. That would spoil the surprise.

Boehner throwing conservatives off of House committees was not a capitualtion. It was treachery.

Can u explain exactly what Bonehead has done?

He has managed to get himself elected speaker of the house which is more than anyone else has been able to do. That indicates that he is knowledgeable about the House rules and is able to get the majority of the members to vote for him.

I don't especially care for him, but he seem to be the best we have right now. I know that there are some young turks out there that believe they can do a better job. But have never done it before.

My experience has been that everybody thinks they can do a better job until they get in the hot seat and find out it is not as easy as it looks. Consider for a minute what might happen if we dump Boehner and get somebody that is worse. I would be a little nervous about having a trainee speaker of the house at this critical time in our history.

I agree with the feeling that the republicans have to use their constitutional authority to stop this rouge president before he completely destroys the country. I just don't know who would be better. I would like a Newt or Delay type of fighter, but I don't see one.

I know that those conservatives that voted against Ryan's budget because they wanted it to go further got spanked for getting out of line. But there is a need to keep the troops in order and maintain discipline.

They don’t work for Bonehead. They work for the districts that sent them to DC.

What part of that do u not understand.

a little remedial education - the SPEAKER COMES FROM THE MAJORITY!!! example Ryan, West Bachmann etc etc etc

Actually not no.

Speaker gets a majority vote in the election for Speaker. Can be anybody.

Ryan wants the job--would rather be Speaker than President.

If I were a freshman member this time, I would go see Conservative Dem members a number of whom are senior; and offer Committee Chairmanships and other leadership roles in a Coalition in order to be elected Speaker. Would not need many Dem votes either.

“We just don’t know yet and besides, who would replace him?”

Paul Ryan would be an obvious choice. It would be sweet revenge for Obama buying the election through the ghetto vote.

Get a history lesson.
It requires a set number of 218 votes, NOT a majority.
Congress would continue voting until that 218 vote is reached.

It’s called go all the way with getting rid of Boehner. Get more than 16. Get so many there’s no doubt what is meant by it as otherwise it would appear to be a vindictive act for his actions versus a Political realignment in favor of the party, and the people.

We can’t allow such action against Boehner be downplayed as some act of revenge, or some hissy fit by Conservatives, or it will be for naught. It has to be a blowout, an action that says Boehner did a really bad job is why he’s being bounced. Nobody should be able to sleight the meaning of the action against Boehner.

Do you understand that if they don't work together, they will not accomplish anything. Who ever they choose as their leader, they have to work as a group.
While a few soreheads are bickering, Obama is looting the Treasury.

I say go ahead a choose your leaders and then support them.

The majority party in the House holds the speakership. Sweet Nancy can only be the minority leader. Boehner needs 218 votes. We need 16 Pubbies to say no or abstain from voting for him.

Didn't he get reelected Speaker already?

What people don't realize is the Speaker doesn't even have to be a member of the House so if they wanted Newt or Romney or Allen West or Sarah Palin they could elect that person to be Speaker.

Bonehead is about to sell the GOP down the river.
What u fail to understand is that congressmen work for their districts.
Bonehead works for the DC Big Government crowd.

The Speaker can be anyone in the country and does not need to be a member of the House.

The Speaker is the one with the most most votes, so if 16 vote present, then Nancy becomes Speaker. Very simple.

That is not true. How does a political junkie get simple stuff like this wrong? The incoming members vote on the leadership for the new Congress. Good grief.
