Modern people are too impatient to wait for anchors to grow up.

and you pay for it with your tax dollars

I pay for all kinds of things with my tax dollars that I would never pay for if I were choosing the expenditures. I pay for all sorts of things when I'm shopping for my family that I don't really want to buy, don't consider of value, too. It's in the nature of there being more than one person on earth.

But back to the point, I don't think we really have "precious college slots." Anyone who wants to go to college can go, almost regardless of his actual qualifications, and it's highly probable that he'll get someone else to pay for it: his parents, the college, the state or federal government, a federal lender, his employer, etc. As both a parent and a taxpayer, I want those who go to college to be those who will most benefit, with "benefit" meaning that they become self-supporting and responsible adults. The race or ethnicity of said student is not of concern to me.

I'm not saying the protestors are wrong to protest or to be concerned about the issue of birthright citizenship. I'm simply saying that IF college slots were terribly scarce, I'd rather the best qualified students filled them, as opposed to anyone feeling a sense of entitlement.

First off, sorry about the insulting term I used. But Southern Border issues just really pull my string.

“Your logic seems to be that the legal Chinese citizens are good Americans, therefore Chinese anchor babies are ok. “

No. Anchor babies are not okay. I merely was pointing out the differences between the hardworking, successful Chinese I know, and the illegal aliens who are flooding all of our systems. The Chinese are exploiting the same hole in our defenses as the illegal immigrants are, but I think they have a much better chance of integrating into our society. But the anchor baby “hole” should be closed.
I hear the “70% voted for obama” number often, and it surprises me. I wonder just where that polling was done? In downtown Cleveland,,, perhaps. In Solon, no way.

“Do you really think that the rightness or wrongness of this issue should be predicated on your Chinese friends?”

I wasn’t actually talking about the “anchor baby” issue. I was talking about people, culture, etc..

Agree 100%.

This is nothing to get worried about.

Seriously.

It sounds like we agree for the most part. The lack of a secure border is made worse by a lack of assimilation. Lat’s patch up the old, battered melting pot and stop the overflow. We know this approach works to produce exactly what we both want - successful, legal, Americans who are vested in the national good regardless of culture.

“I’ll try and apologise for him if need be.”

No need, but hopefully we start thinking about the language we use and how it looks to otherwise conservative people looking in.

The greatest thing about Rousseau, Locke, Madison and Jefferson, et all. is that our principles work for everyone. We don’t (or shouldn’t) divide people up by ethnicity and class. This is what our political opponents do. Our job is to convince others and bring them into our fold.

“e plurbus unum”

Abdo-lutely!
(I always thought it was “E Pluribus Unum,” but a quick search indicates both spellings are used. Hmmmm. I was lousy in High School Latin!))

There have also been quite a few articles about these folks who being in their elderly chinese relatives, who immediately go on social security without paying dime one.

“There have also been quite a few articles about these folks who being in their elderly chinese relatives, who immediately go on social security without paying dime one. “

That has not been the case with any of the many Chinese that I know. They bring their parents here for extended vacations, as long as 6 months. But the parents don’t want to stay here. They’re old, they don’t speak the language, and are much more comfortable with being in their own country, in their own culture.

Now,,, having said that, I’m not sure what goes on on the West Coast, or in other cities with BIG Chinatowns. But in Cleveland? Uh uh!

That is an interesting anecdote. Thanks. I remember an article a while back that talked about MOST of the Chinese here to study were being supported by the Chinese military/govt. I shudder to think but the next World War, given the social and financial trajectory of this country.

Most Asians are lib Democrats (look at exit polls) and come from an incompatible, non-western culture, no matter how intelligent they are. Sick of how much a-s kissing there is for Asiatics on this site. Deport them back NOW!
