The camera platform barely seemed to move

Motion compensation works well even in cheap cameras these days. I can imagine that no expense was spared on DSP algorithms that process data from many-megapixel sensors in drones. Here is one example. Note the mention of "forward" motion compensation. It works by figuring out the pre-distortion of the image by the position of the camera (using GPS.) This is more accurate than doing the same just by looking at the image - it can handle images that change wildly (such as this movie of an explosion.)
