This is an election effect, I doubt it will persist after the agitated partisanship dies down some. In the feverish atmosphere of the campaign, the issue becomes a surrogate for the candidate. Obama voters endorse Obama positions without even thinking that they may be going against their underlying beliefs. It happens all the time.

It does appear to have sunk Akin, though, which is too bad for us.
