Obama pressed for quick decision
With a second term now in hand, President Obama no longer can delay a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline and must either side with environmentalists within his party or greenlight a major step toward North American energy independence.
The pipeline decision could be an early sign for the direction of Mr. Obamas green agenda for the next four years, after a campaign in which he sparred with Republican opponent Mitt Romney over the pipeline and on issues such as subsidies for alternative energy companies, the future of the coal industry, and drilling policy on federal lands and along the nations coasts.
Green-energy and environmental groups said Wednesday that they were buoyed by the presidents re-election and that they think it will kick off another chapter for clean energy in America. Mr. Obamas previous attempt to tackle carbon emissions, the ill-fated and unpopular cap-and-trade bill, died in the Democrat-dominated Congress during Mr. Obamas first two years in office, but many of the presidents supporters see his re-election as an opportunity to resurrect it.
The public stands with us from clean energy to addressing climate change. This election and our polling indicate a mandate from the American people on the environment and public health. Now is the time to act, said Heather Taylor-Miesele, director of the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund.
The environment won, and polluting industries lost. There is no clearer way to state it, said Jamie Rappaport Clark, president of the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund. The biggest winners last night are the generations yet to come as Americans overwhelmingly chose to leave them a cleaner, better world in which to live.

This is spin. The pipeline will be built, they re-routed a section around the Nebraska Sandhills to avoid most of the Ogallala Aquifer and site preparations such as running power to the compressor stations has already begun.
The Nebraska Governor is culpable in this a little, as he thought he could placate some environmentalists by agreeing with them when they were going to lose anyway, but the Obama machine saw it as a crisis in need of exploitation and make it a big deal.
Good. Let him and his EPA shut down coal, natural gas, and oil.
I want the whole country to see the results of his insane policies. Let every one of those morons who backed him realize their foolishness when he makes the economy scream in agony.
I truly hope you’re right but I don’t trust him one bit.
He’s put hundreds if not thousands out of work in the coal and related industries and hasn’t backed down.
The enviros will expect support for their cause for them supporting him and we know he’s willing to throw billions into the “green” energy rip off because he already has.
...no longer can delay a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline and must either side with environmentalists within his party or greenlight a major step toward North American energy independence. All together now -- This is all Christie's fault! This is the Republican Party's fault! This is everyone's fault but mine! Romney would have been worse! McCain would have been worse!
We will be warm with acres of wood for a toasty wood burning stove. So far a lot of TN heats with wood.
I agree. The pipeline will be built, probably with a few other bits of political window dressing so Obama can claim he pushed through a “better” pipeline project. He’ll continue his regulatory encroachment on the industries, but he’s doing it through the proverbial ‘death of a thousand cuts’. He knows he can’t do it in one fell swoop without total backlash, so he makes a big deal about the pipeline and then quietly continues his agenda behind the scenes.
note to all lefties... start learning how to rub two sticks together... it gets cold in january...
I say let em freeze in the dark. They deserve it.
I’m glad I still live in a relatively free state called Texas. Not for long though.
How certain are you that this gets built?
With the ongoing decline of the U.S. dollar we are rapidly approaching a point where we'll be like a Third World country in which our own resources are more and more difficult for us to afford.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding there's refineries in So Texas that can refine this type oil and much of the product shipped out will be the refined product.
” The pipeline will be built...”
The only pipeline that will be built will be to deliver crude to the West Coast to be delivered in tankers to China. The tankers will have to get in line to allow the other ships, those carrying America’s coal, to dock so America’s energy can be used by the non-American commies, instead of Obama and his tools.
