We're particularly interested in the turnout at more democratic precincts in NOVA (Northern Virginia).

What kind of voter safe guards do you have? ID asked, etc?
Anything new about voter laws since 2008?
Love the callsign.
They are pieces of paper, patterned after the ballot, with the respective party’s suggestions on candidates and issues. They are colored differently, so one can gain a sense of representative numbers of pubs & dems.

Just voted in NOVA (near Falls Church), at the same time as 4 years ago, so I could compare. As with much of NOVA, this area has very diverse population here (mostly Asian and hispanic). This part of NOVA is generally quite Democrat. 4 years ago, the turnout was unreal. What was really striking back then was: 1) a huge number of black voters, 2) an even huger number of hispanic voters, and 3) hordes of college kids. Being in line was quite depressing.
This year, turnout was heavy, but nothing like 4 years ago. There were a handful of black voters. Crowd was definitely older and whiter, but also more female (may have been the time of day). Also, I was really struck by the number of Asian voters. I don’t know what to make of that.
After I left, I suddenly realized that I didn’t see a single hispanic voter. I also just realized that I didn’t see a single college kid.
If this is in any way representative, I am optimistic about Virginia. But I also heard from a friend who is a police officer, that turnout in some of the 90% democrat areas was very high, almost to the levels of 4 years ago.

Second, the Fort Belvoir officer corps. Lots and lots and lots of Commissioned officers and Senior NCOs live in the area ~ but otherwise are assigned at the Fort in the various things they do there ~ which are rather incredible. Many black people in the group.
Third, the African Africans. This area has been popular for African immigrants. I think we have folks from every tribe in Sub Saharan Africa. They own businesses and work in a variety of upscale service industries.
No, actually not many "Takers" there ~ mostly "Givers" and most being reasonably well educated. Do they vote Democrat? Maybe, but they also vote Republican ~ particularly the guys from Ghana and other parts of former British Africa.
ROTC is a big deal at Mount Vernon Highschool, and this is the ONLY highschool in Fairfax that regularly beats Alexandria's T.C. Williams highschool.
There are Hispanics ~ further up the highway for the most part. Housing down there in that precinct is not exactly cheap. Then there's a fairly large Thai community scattered around ~
This is all pretty typical of much of Fairfax county ~ just people from everywhere ~ and I mean everywhere!
We voted around noon here in deep SW Virginia. There was a steady stream of voters and no Democrat electioneers outside handing out literature.
You forgot the Muslims. The last time I was at Fair Oaks mall I thought I was at an Egyptian bazaar.
Last week there was this moslem holiday ~ feast of Eid ~ so many people from all over the East Coast drove to Fairfax to celebrate with friends and family ~ couple of reasons for that. We have the mosques. We have the groceries. We have the restaurants.
They’ve redistricted and changed precincts in a number of places. You might have lost the old group and picked up a new group.
I did see long lines at several polling places on my drive home from work.
