We're particularly interested in the turnout at more democratic precincts in NOVA (Northern Virginia).
voted at Briar Woods, short line maybe 10 minutes. Not much to report. looked like the mix I’d expect.
Bedford City..half hour west of Lynchburg...no issues, pleasant crowd, I would say about 10 minute wait on line....I’d say 60-40 R to D by sample ballot takers and overall buzz.
Voted in Norfolk this morning. There were several 0bama signs posted but not a single Romney sign. Saw two people in wheel chairs who were severely mentally ill. Both were brought in by a third party and both had the blue democrat sample ballot.
Same at Mill Run Elementary (also Loudoun County, for those who don’t live here). After the 2008 election, I dubbed LoCo the People’s Republic of Northern Virginia.
Very strong ratio of green to blue.
Also, I checked in using my concealed handgun permit!!!!
Sooooo tired of hearing that damned commercial this past weekend. Every 3 minutes!

Heavy, heavy turnout this morning. Most people taking Republican sample ballots.
Western Prince William seemed light around ten this morning but the poll workers said it was crazy busy earlier in the AM and they expect it to be busy again after 4pm. Most of my neighbors did the absentee this year.
Prince William County (Lakeridge) went with wife unit midmorning to avoid the early rush. 2 hour wait so had to leave for work, but will return on broken glass. Longest wait since I got here in 1996. About 40-50% seemed to have a blue “sample ballot” meaning they are not voting for the American. Lots of school teachers (mostly liberal) in line since they have the day off.
Voted at Waples Mill School (10th Congressional) in Oakton. Waited 45 minutes on line. Have been voting at this site for 24 years and in the 10th District for 34 and have never seen a crowd like this (I’d say double that of ‘08 at approx. the same time of day). But, aside from a slightly increased minority representation (bringing the total to about 5%), no clues whatsoever as to who might be winning the vote. Frank Wolf (R) has won this district for as long as I’ve been voting for him, but it went for O in ‘08.
Just voted in People’s Republic of Arlington. Good sized line when I arrived & was told it’s been steady since open. Open was on par with other prez elections - long line. When I completed voting line was completely gone. However I suspect both Alexandria & Arlington will have the usual big turn out. Not sure how it reflects on the more politically diverse Fairfax.
SO... Fellow VAs in red or purple counties leave no Romney vote to waste. We need every single vote to win the state. The left isn’t that demoralized here.
Just back from voting in Powhatan. Stood in line for 30 minutes and was voter #1008. In the 18 years I have been voting here this was by far the largest turnout I have seen.
I was thinking the judge sent out a deputy to bring you in if you didn’t show for jury duty. These were maybe people who couldn’t be found.
Anyway turnout was a little above average at my deep SWVA district.
Voted in Grayson County this morning. It’s always a small line, and today was the same as usual. I noticed the entrance way was lined with state signs. There was one Romney sign but none for O.
Franklin County 1:00 PM. In my precinct, 2800 (about 2/3 of registered voters in this precinct) voters had voted as of 1:00 PM. That is already more than the full day’s voting total in 2008.
This is a 67% Republican precinct.

Voted this morning in Precinct 21 (S. Arlington), among the bluest of the blue precincts.
Although turnout was massive, and it took two hours to vote, I sensed that something other than Dem enthusiasm was pushing the high turnout.
Us.
I think the impressive turnout was the cummulative effect of them and us. They will always do well here. But this year we too seemed to be all in. I saw many Rep sample ballots in line.
The county precentages will verify my hypothesis tonight if my observation is correct.

I voted at 7:30 this morning in Wise, Virginia, about seven hours west of Richmond in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. Saw the most amazing thing, the polling place at Addington Middle School was surrounded by signs: lots of Romney and Allen signs, but also signs for Democrats Kaine and Flaccavento. The crazy thing was that there was not a single Obama sign. I walked around looking for one and couldn’t find any. It looks like the Democrats came out and put up signs for their congressional candidates, but not for Obama. This is coal country, but it still amazed me. I don’t think they want to be associated with him.
Just back from a Prince William county polling place. Stood in line OVER an hour. One lady told me she’d never seen a turnout quite like it ...it was steady, since 6 a.m., one hour wait.
At least you have to be glad people are participating ...i just hope they’re participating with Republicans! My gut feeling ...maybe a 55/45 split ... Romney on top. Lot of “bringing old grandma out to vote” type folks showing up.
I’ve seen this mentioned a few times about the rep and dem sample ballots? What are these? We didn’t have them at our polling place.
