THE PULL QUOTE

"Beginning in January 2013, the Republican Party will be dominated by free market, liberty-minded, value-voter conservatives all responsible for the Romney election. In 1980, conservatives were energized with Reagan’s victory, but unfortunately with the selection of Bush as Vice President and the influence in the cabinet by the Neo-Cons, victory was short-lived."

"Unlike Reagan, Romney looked Right and selected a strong, leading conservative as his running mate: Paul Ryan, whose political identity was based on a budget that is essentially the antithesis of the Great Society. The die was cast immediately upon that decision."

There’s a very very cautious optimism here on FR regarding Romney. We’ve seen him evolve into a pretty good candidate from when he started, and in fact I think he’s convinced most of the non-believers that he might carry the Reagan banner.

I for one don’t know. I have a brother who lived in UTah for many years who, thirty five years ago, told me the Mormon church was grooming Mitt Romney for the presidency. Yes, he said that 35 years ago. He feels strongly that Romney will post to the middle and be a very moderate presidency.

I listened to his speech today in Virginia. If he was not on a teleprompter, then I would say that he’s an authentic guy. He talked about things that only a true American could say. Things like when he was a boy scout leader, and about his sister etc.

It’s about time we get someone in office who comes from the private sector. Who truly, and I mean truly cleans house...from the USPS, to AMTRAK, to Medicare etc. The Federal govt should do nothing but protect our assets thru a strong military. The rest the states can do.

Do you understand the difference?

Romney is a lifelong liberal that was trying to win over the conservatives that he had always been at war with.

Reagan had the opposite problem.

Despite living in MA I have hopes too (though cautious). Mitt's speech on dropping out in '08 was the most conservative I had heard from him up to that point.

Increasingly I wonder if, up to that point, he was listening too well to his advisors, the pros, the sages (you know the ones), and cast caution to the wind in what should have been a farewell address.

Is it possible the real Mitt, the one that reflects old school values is coming to the fore? You gotta hope so...

Our friend Bill Spadea, a frequent guest on New York City area Fox affiliates, who knows politics as a candidate and as the Bush campaign’s national youth director, has an interesting take on what a Mitt Romney victory would mean.

Um, should be pointed out that Spadea was George HW Bush's national youth director ...

Bill’s take is that a Mitt Romney administration will take up where Reagan left off, unlike the three other Republican administrations that have been elected since Reagan left office.

Ok, Reagan was President #40, right? GHWB was #41. Clinton was #42 and GWB was #43. Obama is #44. That math doesn't add up - four Presidents since Reagan, two Republican, two Democrat. Where's the third (missing) Republican Administration?
