Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin released a statement on her Facebook page accusing President Obama of engaging in "shuck and jive shtick" regarding last month's attack in Benghazi, Libya.
She was immediately attacked as a racist by Mike Krumboltz of The Ticket:
"For those who aren't familiar with the phrase, "shuck and jive" is a racially-tinged expression.
This morning, I looked up "shuck and jive" on Wikipedia and saw this:
"Shuckin' and jivin' (or shucking and jiving) is an American slang term for the behavior of joking and acting facetiously."
This afternoon, I went back to Wikipedia and saw this:
"Shuckin' and jivin' (or shucking and jiving) is an African American slang term for the behavior of joking and acting facetiously."
Some anonymous Progressive went on Wikipedia and inserted the word "African" into the definition in order to dishonestly support the idea that Sarah Palin's use of the term is inherently racist after the fact.
The Urban Dictionary and Yahoo had the definition of “Shuck and Jive” altered to have racial connotations within a few minutes or even maybe a few seconds after Sarah’s tweet using the term.
These people are relentless.

If you are of a certain age, you will appreciate this.....
So the Bee Gees had a big hit with the song “Jive Talkin”. Are the Bee Gees racists?

You can anonymously change it back, you know.
You’re a racist for even asking.
:-P
Shuckin' and jivin' (or shucking and jiving) is an southern American slang term for the behavior of joking and acting facetiously.
It seems someone replaced 'African' with 'southern' but neglected to change 'an' to 'a'.
I have since corrected the syntactical error.
After Obama loses to Romney, the left will go apepoop with ‘racism’ to the level that will finally cause people to give them a big and public “FU”.
Most of the country has already had it.
I WANT them to go full tilt with the Orewllian BS. It will bring their demise all the faster.
I’m such a bad girl.

Wikipedia “History” is your friend! Examining the “History” reveals a flurry of updates on October 25 beginning with the insertion of claims of “slavery” and racial overtones.
Going back further, the use of “shuck and jive” by Jay Carney had been deleted on Sept 2011.
“White House press secretary [[Jay Carney]] on September 7, 2011 forgot his briefing book and told the assembled media that he would, “shuck and jive.” [http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/09/07/carney_im_going_to_shuck_and_jive.html]"

This information should inoculate Palin from reproach!
I anticipated this, and posted the unchanged version yesterday:
Shuckin and jivin (or shucking and jiving) is an American slang term for the behavior of joking and acting facetiously. The term can also refer to the speech and behavioral mechanisms adopted in the presence of an authoritative figure.[1] Shuckin and jivin usually involves clever lies and impromptu storytelling, used to one-up an opponent or avoid punishment.[2] Such behavior is believed to have originated in the era of slavery.[2]
Shuckin and Jivin: Folklore from Contemporary Black Americans (ISBN 0-253-20265-5) is the name of a book written by Daryl Cumber Dance in 1981. In 1972, the Johnny Lewis Quartet record a soul jazz LP called Shuckin N Jivin .[3]
The term is also used in the Southern United States referring to deceit or mischief involving lies.[citation needed]

Yes, you are and when Romney is president, you’re going to get a sound spanking.
[right before we’re all sold into slavery]
:)
Before today's flurry, the page was last changed in February and, before that, December 2011.
This is all I could find on Conservapedia for ‘jive’
Urban English (also referred to as Urban Vernacular English, or Jive) is a variant or dialect of English spoken by historically segregated minorities in urban communities (or cities) across the United States, predominantly African-Americans. Urban English has its roots in the Creole tongue which was spoken in the South among slaves, and hence some of the differences between it and standard English can be attributed to the adaptation of native African phonological processes and syntax to an English lexicon.
The hillbillies say it all the time and we don’t even *have* black people here.
I have no idea where/when/how the phrase originated.
Will you ever get over Macho Grande?
The miracle of the internet has allowed us to witness each stroke of the soviet airbrush in realtime.
“I came in from Memphis, where I learned to talk the jive.” I guess the Grateful Dead are racist too, as well as Eric Clapton with “Willie and.the Hand Jive.” Oh, and how could I forget Skynyrd with “You’re talkin jive, woman when you say to me.” Where does all of this PC nonsense stop?
I picked a helluva week to stop sniffing glue.

As an aside, imagine how much power Governor Palin would have if she was relevant...
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking!
The thing to do in a situation like this is to make an objective comment on the talk page documenting what changes were made and the context of the change (ie the recent Palin comment) so that there is a permanent indication of what liberal editors have done on the page.
Comments on talk pages tend to remain there forever, although they may be archived on active pages. Its good for people to stumble upon evidence like this sometime in the future.
Yes. A very bad girl. And now, you must be spanked.

Yes you can amend it but if they detect controversy they check your, er, progressive credentials and you’ll soon find yourself locked out.
Been there, done that
Shouldn’t even be an issue....and as bad of the 50-60s may have been, it was changing. It took the civil rights movement to mess things up (pre CRM two parent families, literacy, percentage of college graduations were all on the rise).
“We went into slavery a piece of property; we came out American citizens. We went into slavery pagans; we came out Christians. We went into slavery without a language; we came out speaking the proud Anglo-Saxon tongue. We went into slavery with slave chains clanking about our wrists; we came out with the American ballot in our hands.
Progress, progress is the law of nature; under God it shall be our eternal guiding star.”
~~ Booker T. Washington
For years people have "shucked" corn, removing the papery husk and silk from the ears. Peas are also "shucked" from their pods. These labor intensive tasks were often accomplished by several people working together, sitting on the back porch around a washtub full of vegetables that were to be shucked of their inedible portions. Many hands made the work go quickly and gossip among the workers relieved the boredom.
I believe "jive" started as a reference to early jazz music which extended to include dance done to "jive" music. Ultimately "jive" included the people dancing to the jive music, interpreted as silly or uninhibited. The gossip then could be jive or silly talk.

PS People used to "shuck" their clothes before skinny dipping at the 'ol swimmin' hole. Archaic English?
Palin must have seen it performed many times over the two seasons that her daughter was on the show.

The shuck part I knew, having shucked my share of horse and cow corn.
Wasn’t clear on the jive except the kin did a lot of yapping as we sat around shuckin’. ....;)
The term is well known slang, dealing with mannerisms, not really judgmental in any sense. But it does describe some of Obama's mannerisms.
What Mrs. Palin's use of the term certainly did not imply was any overall judgment of any racial group, community or political movement. Frankly, where is the racial insult supposed to be derived?
We do not know whether Obama supposedly got his "shuckin & jiving' mannerism from his Luo father, genetically; from his confused mother, either from his upbringing, or genetically; from his rearing in Indonesia; or from the Marxist Whites who trained him in anti-American values. If one were to hazard a guess, it would most likely put the blame on those Marxist Whites, who in their actual contempt for the objects of Obama's "community organizing," thought the mannerisms would help him in undermining certain Chicago communities.
In short, if there is a racial insult, here; it was the insult of Obama's Marxist tutors, directed at those Chicago communities. Mrs. Palin simply recognized the behavior involved, as exhibited by Obama. (Incidentally, the Luo tribe has nothing in common with any community in Chicago, so no one should suggest any connection, there. The media may be confused on the point, but no serious anthropologist would be.)

Per Hyterical History the term ‘jive’ began with Currier and Jives, printers who would deliver jive to your home by currier or messenger.
Next, with car pools came jiving boards where people sat around and said dumb things in a serious way.
But shuckin’ was from corn shuckin’ where you try to peel off the husks only to find more corn underneath which is kinda like this post, nothin’ but corn.
LOL!
How long until Nazis get mentioned?
True as far as that goes, however, I believe that shuckin' and jivin' has been going on a lot longer then "Dancing With the Stars". I'm guessing that it goes back as far as the mid 19th century.
