You tune in to the NFL and they want to remind you to think only about women’s breasts.

No, they don't want people to think about women's breasts. They want people to be aware of the fact that breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women.

Its a football game: It should be about blood, boogers, sweat and swearing.

They should be far more concerned about heart disease...

Actually what they want is the good PR of being visibly associated with the most popular disease “charity” of the day. Same reason everything else turns pink in October. PR is worth a lot of money.

The mortality rate from breast cancer is about 1/5th the mortality rate caused by prostrate cancer.

The reality is that the “pink brigade” is nothing more than a bunch of organization profiting from the gullible that want to “feel” good by walking a few miles. I’d wager that a very low percentage of the overall take goes anywhere near medical facilities.

I give them credit tho, they sure picked the right market to target.

“They want people to be aware of the fact that breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women.”

Roughly the same number of men and women die each year in the USA from breast cancer and prostate cancer, respectively.

In fiscal year 2009, breast cancer research received $872 million worth of federal funding, while prostate cancer received $390 million. It is estimated that fiscal year 2010 will end similarly, with breast cancer research getting $891 million and prostate cancer research receiving $399 million.

Private charitable funding is similarly disparate.

In short, men don’t matter.

We exist to protect, work, and die when no longer useful.

Why do we need to be aware during a football game or NASCAR race?
