I’m pretty sure iPads are a cost savings vs. textbooks.
I base this on the fact that a bunch of our Catholic schools are using them here, and they are always on a bare bones budget.

There is absolutely no possibility that the school district's budget for paper and copying was reduced when they purchased iPads for the employees. This is a government program: costs only go up, never down.

When I take a picture on my iPhone, it is uploaded to iCloud, and then goes to ALL of my iCloud synced devices (iMac, MacBook, iPad). I use the feature all the time, as amy iPhone pics are fine for most of what I take. When I need more pixels, I uses my Canon!

I must admit, I'm not nearly as tech-savvy as you. I tell people that I've been unable to take pictures with my cell phone because I can't figure out how to load the film into it.

I doubt the digital textbooks are free; I doubt it's ipad vs books.

Probably more like licensing digital books and buying ipads to view them on.

Whatever the deal, I'll bet Catholic schools are getting far more for their dollars than gubmint schools. The gubmint schools want all the nice things and have no real concern for budget: vendors see them coming a mile away.
