Democrats accuse Romney of applying a political strategy in filing his 2011 tax returns

Democrats say Mitt Romney manipulated his deductions to keep his overall 2011 federal income tax rate below a certain level for political purposes. The Republican presidential nominee is certain to face new questions about his finances.

Romney and his wife, Ann, donated roughly $4 million to charities last year, but they only claimed a deduction of $2.25 million on their tax return, filed with the Internal Revenue Service on Friday.

Romney made $13.7 million last year and paid $1.94 million in federal income taxes, giving him an effective tax rate of 14.1 percent. That was a bit above the 13.9 percent rate paid on 2010 income.

More precisely, the returns showed that the couple paid $1,935,708 in taxes on income of $13,696,951.

Democrats quickly leaped on the documents, saying Romney had claimed fewer deductions than he was entitled to just to keep his rate at such a level.

As many know, I am not a Romney fan. I’m a stubborn, mule-headed, principled conservative, and he won’t get my vote.

Well preacher, I guess that means your principles are greater than those of:

Michele Bachmann
Herman Cain
Newt Gingrich
Sarah Palin
Rick Perry
Jim Robinson
Paul Ryan
Rick Santorum
Phyllis Schlafly
Fred Thompson
Allen West

(among many, MANY others)

Being 'principled' and going AWOL on election day when the fate of our Nation hangs in the balance is the refuge of a coward and a scoundrel.

Could you trick yourself into thinking that you are voting for a different Attorney General, Secretary of State, Ambassadors to every country, two new Supreme Court Justices, many other judges, etc? You will feel better when the Obama regime is over.

The demodummies have been bitching and bitching about Romeny and his tax returns. Now, after he files and post them, they are again bitching about his tax returns. They can’t have it both ways. After Obummer posts a real birth certificate, his tax returns, and the demodummies all post their’s, etc., then we will have something to compare Romney’s returns to. Get over it!!!!!!!!!

They’re just upset because Romney didn’t pay the ranson they demanded for his tax records that they hacked a few weeks ago.

Of course demanding he publish his tax returns was NOT a political strategy.

Only Republicans have political agendas. Democrats are as pure as Monical Lewinski's blue dress.

"Politically-speaking, I just don’t see the point."

I do. Romney paid more taxes than he was required to do by law. He also wants to change the law, by reducing the tax RATE, while eliminating deductions and loop holes. This will encourage investments and job creation which will improve the economy. This is exactly what he has done in his own life. It's a perfect position to be in to expose the hypocrisy of the Buffets and Hollywood rich Democrats who "want to pay more taxes", but only if you do too.

Oh, suddenly we’re using the term “effective rate.”

Don’t forget he paid capital gains in there as well. So it is even higher than 30.8%.

But we’re STILL not going to have a conversation about how cheap and UN-generous Biden and Obama have been when it comes to charitable giving.

Ummmm, I thought they wanted the rich to pay more?

just proves that the Dems call for the taxes was merely a ploy for fodder for more attacks on Romney. And how many of those rich dems pay more than they have to? My guess is ZERO.

paid $1.94 million in federal income taxes

If we had an independent media in this country, they would be demanding Harry Reid reveal his "source" who assured all of us that Mitt Romney hasn't paid any tax in ten years.

speaking of tax returns

I just wasted 5 minutes of my life searching for full list of Obama`s charitable giving and found just what I thought I would find.

Never gave a penny to a single Christian organization, what I mean by Christian is a charity that preaches the Gospel of The Lord Jesus Christ to the worlds lost. Such as World Vision, Samaritans purse etc, nothing that I could see.

This Obama would have you believe he is a Christian. He supports abortion and homosexuality for starters, not to mention a long list of anti Christian stands that his supreme court justices share with him.

Abortion on its own separates him/anybody from God!! But the list gets longer and longer, he does not give a red cent to a truly Christian organization. Yes it`s true much of his giving went to good causes for sure, just not truly Christian organizations that feed the needy as well as their spiritual needs.

No I never researched Romney, have no idea who he gave to outside of his Mormon Church

Would be surprised if he gave to World Vision or Franklin Graham`s Samaritans purse etc, because the Gospel world Vision etc is preaching is not the same Gospel Mormons are preaching.

I am supporting Romney as the lesser of 2 evils, but yes it is a crying shame that we have only these 2 choices.

I see the point in that way, and that could have been a powerful point. But I don't think it's a strong point when it conflicts with Romney's own previous words: "I don’t pay more than are legally due and frankly if I had paid more than are legally due I don’t think I’d be qualified to become president. I’d think people would want me to follow the law and pay only what the tax code requires." He had to have known that those words would be thrown back in his face if he turned around and paid more than the tax code requires.

“Rush Limbaugh said months ago that if Romney released these tax documents the left would find some way to use them against him, and that it would be a mistake to release them.”
_____________________________________________________

Yeah, I remember Rush saying this, and truthfully felt the same way. However, After I heard these “summary” tax reports (or whatever they are called) were released by Romney's guy at Price Waterhouse my thought was actually positive. Oh sure, no doubt the Dems are going to spin this, but how is this working out for them so far? Seriously, no matter how they try and spin this, most folks are going to be saying: "The guy paid an effective 14% tax rate, and gave millions to charity...and Harry Reid is still bitching?"

Since it appears the majority of folks (at least that I've noticed on the blogs) support this release, I'm fairly certain Rush will take his famous contrary position. As Rush would say: “Don't doubt me!” :-) I will say, Romney should not address this issue again. I think in this instance it was well played. The Dems are coming unglued...this tells me it was very effective. I'm anxiously waiting for Rush to throw cold water on our enthusiasm on Monday's show.

Exactly. That's the real story here that the national media should be covering. I think some of the media will begin to focus on the big story here, which is the numerous false statements that Harry Reid made about Romney's tax payments. I suspect that Reid knowingly made those false statements. So is Reid guilty of slander and political fraud because of statements he made directly from the senate floor? Is Reid guilty of wire fraud for using cable TV systems and the internet to knowingly transmit false and fraudulent statements to millions of people? This is the big story here--the numerous false and fraudulent statements made by the democrat party's Senate Majority Leader.

After the initial absurd liberal response to Romney actually paying MORE tax than he had to pay, the conservative media is going to start focusing on Harry Reid, Pelosi, and the numerous false and fraudulent statements they made from taxpayer-funded venues. That is the big scandal that has occurred here and we're not going to let that scandal fade away because crooks and liars in the mainstream media just want to forget it.

And the sycophants in the government-media complex report it as truth.

Same old strategy. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

What Romney said about the 47% also applies to all liberals and leftists and may have been the most intelligent, honest statement made in all politics in the past 20 years.

Romney needs to stop giving them anything and say NO MORE! Of course then the media will go back to the “he’s hiding something!” But who cares. The more he gives them, the more they demand and trash whatever he gives them.
