Representative Jim Sensenbrenner (R., Wis.) has a post on the Hill’s Congress Blog highlighting a bizarre new regulation from the EPA requiring some gas stations to sell at least four gallons of gasoline at a time. It affects those that pump both E10 and E15 (gas with 10 percent or 15 percent ethanol) through the same hose. Since E15 is pretty terrible for small engines and old cars (Sensenbrenner says it’s “like metal in a microwave for a small engine”), the theory is that when customers whose engines cannot handle it are buying gas,

Very helpful... unless you live in an area where none is available. Hard to justify a round trip of 120 miles or more to fill up.
Unfortunately we live in the Houston suburbs and it is many miles to the nearest one. Times like this I wish we lived in Alaska where all gasoline is ethanol free. Just ridiculous. Unintended consequence for not participating in Cash for Clunkers?
Many Valero gas stations have ethanol free gas. Also Lukoil.
Where I am in Washington State I’ve never detected more than a trace in local gasoline (less than 0.5%, which is nothing). I think the distributors decided they weren’t going to play that game.

That is exactly what needs to happen. They would just go apoplectic and maybe get an object lesson as a result of their stupidity.
Actually I have a better idea. Strip the immunity and make these people personally criminally and civilly liable for their actions.
My guess after a few of these little Stalins ended up living in a homeless shelter for the rest of their lives, the others might stop and think before they acted.
You would probably just get the local gas station owner fined
How are you measuring it?
We don’t have Lukoil in our part of the woods and all of our Valero stations have ethanol in their gas. I would suspect it is because we are in a metropolitan area and God forbid that we should pollute. Looked on the Internet and there are lots of ethanol free stations in places like Corpus and West Texas though. Little far to go to fill up.
It was wonderful when we were in Mississippi earlier this year where they still have normal gas stations and pumps. Gas was a lot less expensive, too.
Sent article to a friend who has a weird sense of humor. He suggested everyone just run the first four gallons onto the ground and then begin filling the tank. Expensive but not as much as a new engine for his old clunker.

What about lawnmowers? I guess you have to burn up three gallons in your vehicle then pay for four rather than just walk to the gas station for one gallon for your mower.
I forgot about lawnmowers! We have a wimpy electric model that we keep hoping will break so we can replace it with a REAL lawnmower.

Not sure if you have Entex stations in your area, but they have started offering Ethanol Free 87 octane.
