I have always found British gay men (all of whom I know from theatre) have more common sense than their American counterparts. You can actually have a conversation with one of them without wanting to throw up.
With the exception of Ian McKellen, of course.
I regulate him to the label of "genre actor" because I've only seen him playing Magneto and Gandalf. The only "straight" role (har har) I've seen him play was James Whale, creator of the "Frankenstein" movie, so still geeky/genre-y, and, come to think of it, also gay, so he wasn't really acting so much.
