I always thought that she was a very pretty woman. She has staying power that many didn’t have the talent for from the 80’s.

you may be old bald and fat but you could be 100 times smarter than you were in the 70s. It’s what is inside that counts. The fruits of the heart are what matters and thefts, greed, homosexual glorification, adultery, constant sex, narcissism, barbarism, betrayal have become common[lace in our pagan society, demonstrating impure hearts in the majority of people.

Reading so many of the crotchety-assed, prissy posts on this thread I am reminded of the last song of the ceremony itself, the Who’s “My Generation.”

Isn’t it just like so many of us, fat or balding, having buried friends and parents, disillusioned, cynical, and still so self righteous, to attack from behind a keyboard somewhere those artists who are as old or older than we are but who still put it on the line to entertain people. Isn’t it just like the archetypal sour old fart to look at a spectacle like this two-week global celebration of youth and sport and excellence and international camaraderie and say “Bah! Can’t stand all that rap music.”

...And yet feel compelled to MAKE that comment, as if holding on to some shred of relevance, as if also wanting to perform and have approval, as if it were possible, somehow, to prove wrong the march of time, and not fade away.

BEST POST IN THE THREAD! I enjoyed it from the first minute of the opening ceremony through the end of the closing ceremony. Piss on the whining, miserable old, Ebeneezer Scrooge wannabe geezers in here.

I saw David Bowie in concert way back when I was in college. Great show.

Yup. Bowie is another great talent, as is Lennox.

I agree that the opening and closing ceremonies were pretty dismal, and the coverage from NBC was less than stellar, but the athletes were astounding.

I still think they missed a major opportunity by not featuring Dr Who landing in his blue polie box, coming out looking around and saying something like, "Bloody hell, wrong century."

The seats issue was a minor and overhyped problem for the first few days. London 2012 was on and off the track a fantastic olympics and a massive success. The best olympics for 30 years.

“Not bad for a 70 year old!”

Except that she’s 57.

I think they did Who in the opener.

Darliks, Cybermen and The Doctor. I’ve slept since then so my memory’s a bit fuzzy.

All part of their tribute to British entertainment.

I think they missed out by not having the Top Gear guys “shot put” old cars into a caravan (what they call a camper trailer).

I don’t know who you were watching, but at least 10 times I saw several of the US medal winners not holding there hand over there heart during the playing of our National Anthem. Particularly notable was the Williams sister. Who thought it was quite funny that our flag was blown off the bar that was holding it up. The whole time she just stood there with her hands by her waist holding the flowers she was given. I guess she was protesting being a millionaire. Also wasn’t any boxing shown?

Oh yeah, Top Gear guys would have been great, I am glad they featured Mr. Bean in the opening ceremonies.

I think lots of the folks here in the US are complaining because of the coverage of NBC,they cut the ceremonies to bits. Back in the day, when ABC had coverage of the ceremonies, they had limited commercial break during most of the viewing. NBC on the other hand, had to show of a preview of some new television show set for Sept. thereby depriving the American people of the final events of the closing ceremonies.

Being that NBC broadcasted and edited everything I would be willing to bet that a lot of what the people saw on BBC and NBC was quite different.

First off I am a terribly devoted fan of the BBC Top Gear series, and on a totally opposite end of the scale a vehement hater of the US Top Gear guys, so who knows, maybe they were there but NBC edited them out for “American placement” or some other BS.

I swear its about time to get some laws struck down about being slaves to local programming. I want to be able to have access to ALL of the BBC channels, I want access to ALL of the channels down in Rio.

I do NOT want to be manipulated by NBC and its ad placement, fluff story telling or their choice of event coverage.

its time we look ahead to Rio, I know very little about it except for some movies.

Well Who was in the opening ceremonies. But according to google, some of it was cut. I do remember the Darliks and Cybermen though. They didn’t really focus on them too much, just a passing reference.

She's talented and her looks are holding up.

Better than mine, frankly.

Next Olympics I'll watch reruns of Mr Ed. I swear.

What's wrong with Mr. Ed? He was a comedic genius!

“Never heard of the ‘Eurhythmics’?.”

Heard of the band Eurhythmics but could not have named anything they did. Sure had never heard the name Annie Lennox before.
