By NBC News and wire services

Updated at 2:57 p.m. ET: A gunman opened fire Sunday morning at a Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee, killing at least six people and wounding a police officer before being shot to death, police said.

Greenfield Police Chief Bradley Wentlandt, acting as public information officer at the scene, said the shooting was reported at 10:25 a.m. at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek, south of Milwaukee along Lake Michigan. The shooting happened shortly before Sunday services were to begin.

A police officer who is a 20-year law enforcement veteran responded to the scene and confronted a gunman outstide the temple. The officer was shot multiple times, Wendlandt said. The officer returned fire, striking and killing the gunman. The wounded officer was taken to a hospital where he was undergoing surgery.

Wendlandt said four bodies were found inside the temple and three, including the suspected gunman, were outside.

He did not identify or describe the victims.

Earlier, at least four people were seen covered on the ground outside the temple. The temple's president was among those shot, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported.

Sukhwindar Nagr, of Racine, said he called his brother-in-law's phone and a priest at the temple answered, The Associated Press reported. Nagr said the priest told him that his brother-in-law had been shot

A temple committee member, Ven Boba Ri, told the Journal-Sentinel that people inside the temple described the shooter was a white male in his 30s.

"We have no idea," he said of the motive. "It's pretty much a hate crime. It's not an insider."

Ri told the Journal-Sentinel the gunman walked up to a priest who was standing outside the temple and shot him. Then he went inside and started shooting.

They are ALWAYS “Gun Free” zones.

I expect the next to be a school, since that has not happened yet in this cycle.

Okay, you tell me why:

NO, you tell me why and provide proof of your assertion.

Are you a truther too?

Was 9/11 a "false flag operation"?

“Many are police or security here. In India they are in the military way out of proportion to their numbers especially in the officer corps.”

Maybe we should purge our military of Muslims and hire a few folks from India.

Excerpt - Sikh rights groups have reported a rise in bias
attacks since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The
Washington-based Sikh Coalition has reported more than
700 incidents in the U.S. since 9/11, which advocates
blame on anti-Islamic sentiment. Sikhs don’t practice the
same religion as Muslims, but their long beards and
turbans often cause them to be mistaken for Muslims,
advocates say.

A Question of Appearances: Obama Will Bypass Sikh Temple on Visit to India

The Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, is a popular stop for famous visitors. Sikh scriptures require that men tie a piece of cloth on their heads to enter.

The New York Times
October 19, 2010

New Delhi — The Golden Temple, a sprawling and serene complex of gleaming gold and polished marble that is the spiritual center of the Sikh religion, is one of India’s most popular tourist attractions. Revered by Indians of all faiths, it is a cherished emblem of India’s religious diversity. So it was no surprise when the gold-plated marvel was promoted as the likely third stop on President Obama’s visit to India, scheduled for early November.

But the United States has ruled out a Golden Temple visit, according to an American official involved in planning. Temple officials said that American advance teams had gone to Amritsar, the holy city that is the site of the temple, to discuss a possible visit. But the plan appears to have foundered on the thorny question of how Mr. Obama would cover his head, as Sikh tradition requires, while visiting the temple.

“To come to golden temple he needs to cover his head,” said Dalmegh Singh, secretary of the committee that runs the temple. “That is our tradition.”

Mr. Obama, a Christian, has struggled to fend off persistent rumors that he is a Muslim, and Sikhs in the United States have often been mistaken for Muslims. Sikhism, which arose in the Punjab region in the 15th century, includes elements of Hinduism and Islam but forms a wholly distinct faith. Since Sept. 11, 2001, Sikhs in the United States have been occasional targets of anti-Muslim discrimination and violence — a Sikh was killed in Arizona a few days after the attack on the World Trade Center by a man who mistook him for a Muslim.

[Temple] Shooting Gunman White Male With 9-11 Tatoo – CNN

By Zennie Abraham
Published on August 5, 2012

I’m watching CNN where a man just interviewed, and who’s
name is Manwari Kalika (spelling check needed) said that
the gunman who opened fire and shot 20 people, killing
seven (including a police officer), and causing three
people to be in critical condition was a white male, just
over six-feet tall, and with a 9-11 tatoo.

That tatoo tells is a lot about what this nutcase’s
motive may have been: he thought he was shooting in a
Muslim temple, and was in an Indian Sikh temple. First,
whoever the gunman is, he’s a racist, murderous mentally-
ill idiot. Second, he’s just plain dumb, on top of being
(third) a sick bastard.

Also, the bodies have not been removed from the temple as
of this writing. The gunman went right into the prayer
room, and then opened fire. The President of the temple
tried to tackle the gunman, and got shot in the back.

Stay tuned

Even if true, ABC and Brian Ross have released secured information that may hamper the investigation.

Perhaps NumbNutz confused Sikhs with Muslims.

Just because Sikh’s wear turbans does not mean they are Muslims. Sikhs are good people, but Islam’s adherents are just dangerous.

I expect the next to be a school, since that has not happened yet in this cycle.

School is not in session yet, in much of the country.

Colleges are unlikely, they don't capture the public psyche like smaller victims.

That sounds cold, but the calculus of terrorist acts is a cold math, indeed.

If the objective of these acts (provided they are in any way connected) is more gun control, the victims which will cause the greatest outpouring of emotion will be the target.

Dear Lord Jesus, keep the children safe.

I would fear to list the likely locations full of kids.

Too many “Gun Free” venues available for these wacko’s to attack.

Leftist methodology is to first bombard the vulnerable (meaning people who think like young girls) with sad stories. so to mainly plant the idea of the left’s moral superiority amongst the masses, then behind them come the intimidators who include violence in their repetoire. The Left today is Jim Jones’ cult writ large.
