Gallup has just released Barack Obama’s job approval rating for the first half of 2012, broken down by state, and the news is not encouraging for the president.
Obama’s approval rating is below 50 percent in 37 states, ranging from a 26 percent rating in Utah to a 49 percent rating in Michigan. Obama is at 50 percent or higher in just 13 states, from a 50 percent rating in Minnesota to a 63 percent rating in Hawaii. The president is most popular in Washington DC, where his job approval rating is an astonishing 83 percent.

More than that....those that actually reside in DC and vote there are largely African Americans. The city is full of young interns and government workers too, but vote in their home state. As far as lifetime government workers...they largely migrate to N. VA or MD.
You can add race into that. DC is mainly black. The richies do not live in downtown DC so much. They are all in Virginia or Maryland or the rich enclaves.
I’m more concerned about the projected electoral college count. Geographically, a really large number of states could go for Romney, but he will still lose if the big electoral college states go against him. Anybody know where I might find a chart or something on that?

The following states are SURE to go Obama ( and maybe no more than that ) — NY, MA, DE, NJ, CT, Maine, VT, RI, HI, CA, Washington, Oregon, Illinois and finally, DC.

As Clinton's pollster, Dick Morris conducted a study prior to the 1996 election to determine whether Clinton -- a minority president -- could lose the Electoral Vote with a numerical majority of the total vote (a la Gore in 2000).
Morris concluded that, from a practical standpoint, it was statistically impossible to lose the EV if you gathered 51-and-a-fraction percent of the total vote.
Reason is: States that are considered "unwinnable" will still produce results that are reasonably close (say, 55/45 -- which, from an electoral standpoint, is considered "a landslide")

Read in the WSJ today that CA, NY, and IL are now taking out loans against tax revenues that won’t come in for YEARS in the future.

I think that people may be surprised about the lack of support that Obama has even in CA.
My daughter says that she doesn’t know anyone who is voting for Obama in So. CA. All her friends are die hard libs and not a single one are sticking with Obama. I mean these people were such big Obama fans that my daughter gave me strict orders not to discuss politics around her friends, not to even make a single anti-Obama remark and now she says they are all disgusted. This isn’t what they expected.
These people are typical young adults, who are not really into politics and voted Democrats because it was the cool thing to do. Republicans were old, stogy, greedy and boring. Now, they don’t particularly care for Mitt Romney, but they are voting Anyone but Obama.

My guess is they’re betting on an Obama win in November followed by a decree allowing all states that went for Baraq in 2012 to be able to issue federally guaranteed state bonds.
Nothing wrong with CA, IL, and NY that a couple trillion Baraqqi/Bernanke/Geithner minibucks can’t fix.

Truth be told, Carter was never ahead. It was the DNCp doing what they do. You’ll never convince me that people all of a sudden woke up one morning and had an epiphany. People despised Carter. He was a limp wristed cardigan wearing milk toast, that actually had the sheer stupidity to sit there in the White House and tell us the glory days of the U. S. were over.

Reagan blew Carter away because they finally debated a week before the election and Reagan destroyed Carter in it. At the end Reagan told voters to ask themselves if they were better off than four years ago and said if you weren’t, your choice for President should be obvious. It turned the whole thing around.
Carter may have won had he not debated Reagan. His pollster Pat Caldell said on the eve of the debate he had Carter up by 3, then 3 days later Carter was down by 10.
Reagan had the personality and communication skills necessary to turn that election around......Mitt Romney does not. If Romney wins, he will barely sneak by. But I fully expect similar results of 2008 with maybe a bit larger margin of victory of 0bama, 55% to 44% with 0bama winning all the same states as in 2008 and possibly adding Missouri and maybe even Georgia. The people are just to dependent on government assistance to let him go.

I live in So Cal (eastern LA County) and it is more Conservative here than people think.
Outside of LA proper and crappy suburbs right out side of it (East LA, Maywood, Bell, South Gate, Lynwood, etc.), you have a lot of Conservatives here. Eastern LA County, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, Ventura, Kern, San Luis Obispo and San Diego counties are typically red, with the Republicans pulling in 53% - 57% of the vote on a regular basis. Santa Barbara county is pretty much a swing county with neither side usually winning more the 52 or 53% of the vote.
It’s those large Nor Cal counties that make this state deep blue. San Francisco, Marin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa and Solono counties are bluer than blue where Democrats never get fewer than 65% of the vote and sometimes over 80%. The people up there are loonier than those in the North East!
Nor Cal screws So Cal badly. All the big name elected Democrats in this state are ‘northerners”. Moonbeam, Fienstien, Boxer, Gavin Newsome, Bill and Nadia Lockyer, Gray Davis are all from the north.
If CA became two states like the Carolina’s or the Dakota’s, it’d be a red state.
The same city that reelected Marion Barry after he got out of jail for smoking crack with a prostitute/informant. How unexpected.
My daughter lives in So Cal, but her friends mostly live in LA and San Francisco. Yuppies, would be about the best description, I would say. Economically, they are across the full spectrum, from very wealthy to struggling.
Uhhhhhh about 55% rat. Candizce Anderson (R) just won a county supervisor seat and Bill Baker (R) has held the 10th Congressional district seat which is part of the County.
I live in northern Santa Clara County and commute 8 miles each way on El Camino and CA-237. I see at most ONE Obama bumper sticker per day and it’s often 2 or 3 days between spotting one. Our neighbors two doors down have on on their car and in the window of their house. I don’t want to get prematurely optimistic, but this sure isn’t like 2008.
With Obama at 52 percent in California, if that sinks lower it is not impossible for Obama to lose, especially if some of the Obamacons stay home because they are disappointed with him.

DC is the right-sized geographical space for a community organizer to have influence.
I'm in one of those....NY. My boss and I are speaking to our patients (and me, my fellow co-workers) about our current economy and the upcoming election.
He "threw away" (his words) his vote the last election, but now he's ALL Romney, still trying to convince me Romneys the guy.
I told him I'm standing still until the convention. Do I like Romney? No. But if my choice comes down to barry vs. Romney, I MUST go w/ Romney.
He will be running to keep his job, if elected this election, so I believe he might turn a hard right. I'm also waiting on whom he will choose as his VP.
One thing is for sure....he better offer Sarah the highest position in producing American energy.
Other than that, I'm still recovering from my cuts and bruises from the primary...Sarah, Herman, Newt..... =(

Are you feeling well? Obama has about as much chance of winning Georgia as a pig flying. If there is a landslide it will go to the Republican.
The “Washington Bank” definitely includes the welfare coffers.

Romney will win Missouri. He’s polling 50-44 against Obama.
This gives me a lot of hope. Maybe they will never fall for the hope & change BS again in their lifetimes. All one needs to do is read the differences between North & South Korea: pure Capitalism vs. pure Communism. And this administration is not in favor of Capitalism.
A fascinating read is “Nothing to Envy” by Barbara Demick on North Korea. Truly an account of the failure of communism as well as the corruption of their leaders.
