It’s taken over 100 years to get fleet gas mileage to 30 now they think they can get to 54 mpg in the next 3 years?

Somebody is smoking dope.

They don’t want you to have your own car.

The ultimate freedom is being able to jump in your own conveyance and go wherever you want, whenever you want.

You cannot control people who are that free.

Gasoline at $5+ per gallon, new cars starting at $35,000, “safety” and environmental gadgetry that is prohibitively expensive to repair, road regulations that force older cars off the road, exorbitant insurance rates, and the dwindling buying power of the Middle Class will force more people into the cities to use “public transportation”, making them ever more dependent upon the totalitarian collectivist state.

New cars are already unaffordable for many of us and another cash for clunkers program will drive us to bicycles.

The Environmental Protection Agency and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration submitted their proposed 2017-2025 fuel-efficiency recommendations in mid-July to the administration’s Office of Management and Budget.

Either that's a typo and they mean "2025", or the Obamanistas have concluded it's the only way people are ever going to start buying Chevy Volts.

(Everything these idiots do hurts "their people" more than the people they are trying to "get even" with - "Cash for Clunkers" decreased the supply of used cars, and so raised used car prices. Who is most likely to want to buy a cheap, used car? The Republican demographic or the Democrat demographic?)

The Democrat car dealers thought they were okay. Dictators dictate.

I have been speaking to my auto gnomes on this subject, the responses are along these lines....

* "Oh yes we can do it, but @ what cost"...( After all this is Physics)
* The "thinker" type when asked about so will are chassis be as exotic as Formula One cars for Materials? the answer was that won't even get us their.....
* One interviewee on the Frank Beckmann program (auto guy) let it slip they essentially went along with our lear deader as to not get in his cross hairs and hope to "revisit" this down the road.

Pray for a regime change...

Its all part of the plan. Obama and the Libs want us living in cities, using public transportation and riding bikes. It’s much easier to exercise dictatorial control and community “values” in cities.

It’s too late. They are already unaffordable for most people. That’s why used prices are climbing.

Don’t worry. The Obama Recession already makes new vehicles unaffordable for most people. The new fuel standards are irrelevant with the rest of the destruction.

The left doesn’t want people to have cars and be free. Simple as that.

Diesel is the way to better fuel economy, but they will won’t ever go down that path. The Jetta TDI’s are a comfortable sedan and get upwards of 60MPG.

Don’t worry. The government will provide emergency credit facilities to help car buyers.

Ford is spending HUGE sums on R&D to make your F150 pickup truck body out of aluminum. See Next Ford F-150 May Feature Aluminum Body. Following Obama's diktats isn't cheap. Just wait until the body shop has to work on your aluminum body panels.

Also, you are going to get aluminum steering knuckles and stabilizer bars. Are you comfortable with aluminum steering parts?

If I was pResident I would decree that ALL vehicles must run on Pixie Dust and that their exhaust emissions must consist completely of Skittles.

That’s about as realistic as the shiite these arseholes are spewing.
