They don’t want you to have your own car.

The ultimate freedom is being able to jump in your own conveyance and go wherever you want, whenever you want.

You cannot control people who are that free.

Gasoline at $5+ per gallon, new cars starting at $35,000, “safety” and environmental gadgetry that is prohibitively expensive to repair, road regulations that force older cars off the road, exorbitant insurance rates, and the dwindling buying power of the Middle Class will force more people into the cities to use “public transportation”, making them ever more dependent upon the totalitarian collectivist state.

That's what I think too. Just like they don't want people to have the freedom to fly.

"Another concern is the Obama administration’s plan -- which includes more hybrid and electric cars -- will not achieve its goal of “getting gas-guzzlers off the road” because motorists will keep their existing cars or be forced to buy less-fuel-efficient used ones, Wood said."

All the illegals are just ahead of our times. They drive rat rods with no insurance so they can dump them and run if necessary. Sounds like the future to me! ;-)

A two car family used to be a car for mom and one for dad. In the future it will be a three car family. One to drive and two for parts. ;-)

Concur. Its no accident the Young are increasingly saying no to cars. Just another step on the Europeanization of America.

Good post.

How did we allow these democrats/marxist to do this to us?

Government shouldn't be able to tell us what kind of car to buy or tell companies what to produce. That is socialism/communism.

This is against freedom. This isn't what America was or is supposed to be .

This isn't America. This isn't freedom . America is supposed to be freedom not govrenment control . What's wrong with these government idiots and sheep(democrats) that accept this? WE have to reduce government . These government idiots shouldn't be allowed to do all of these millions of things they are doing. Government shouldn't be allowed to tell companies what kind of car or soda to produce. Government shouldn't only be allowed to do a HANDFUL of things. Numerically limit government . It's the only way to rein in these democrat monsters. I want freedom and CW 2 now.

“road regulations that force older cars off the road”

This is the part that’s going to get very tricky. Somehow they have to get the older cars off the road, without violating the sacred alter of SOCIAL JUSTICE (i.e., without punishing the poor).

They will come up with something. Maybe huge vehicle registration charges for everyone as their cars get older, but then a huge rebate to “the poor” so that they can buy new replacements. Who knows? But something...

The ultimate freedom is being able to jump in your own conveyance and go wherever you want, whenever you want.

A couple more reasons: try to find a practice range accessible by public transportation. Add at least $30 to take a zip car to the range. Job choices in the city tend to be government or contractors. City people do not have the option of wood heat. People are stuck buying overpriced merchandise unless they add the cost of a zip car to their shopping trip.

One more intended or not consequence will be the death of the auto repair industry. As people quit driving the need for repair will go down. Old cars will still need repair but parts availability will become an issue.
