Speaking as a Virginian, he would cause more harm than gain to the willard ticket in VA. “Tollbooth Bob” as he’s come to be known is generally competent but dull. And picking him would effectively kiss-off Hampton Roads which is actually the swing region of the Commonwealth. West and central VA are conservative, north is hard left, and east (Hampton Roads) goes whichever way the wind is blowing. And they are heap PO’d at him right now over the tolls.
(For the VA challenged, Hampton Roads is surrounded by water. It lives and dies by it’s bridges and tunnels. Tollbooth Bob cut a deal that will result in tolls on almost all of them. It was a major screw over for the region).
Then there is that little issue of having only 2 names on the VA presidential primary ballot.
All that said, I hope willard picks him. It will increase Virgil Goode’s share of the vote.
Then neither Romney nor Obama get a majority and this goes to the House ~ where Virgil can be selected to be President.
You heard it here first (Or more likely lebenteengazillionth)
He needs his federal job so he'll do whatever he has to do to keep it.
You get out into Fairfax, Loudon, Prince William and other counties and we even have politicians who've pushed back against the hordes of Leftist sponsored illegal aliens ~
Biggest mistake you can make in this region is to bad mouth the people who work for the federal government ~ because a lot of them do ~ not a majority by any means, but enough so that probably everybody who's lived here a couple of generations has a relative somewhere with a federal connection, either as an employee or as a contractor.
I think that's probably the case in most Congressional districts ~ that you do well when you avoid badmouthing the largest body of employees in the area.
Stan Paris, one of the most conservative Representatives in United States history used to represent the whole area quite well. His constituent services were top notch, and his voting record on federal pay and benefits issues was perfect. He also voted for God and Country!
He and a fellow named Herb Harris, a Democrat, passed the district back and forth several times ~ Herb was a bit more conservative than Stan, but he was also absolutely perfect when it came to voting on federal pay and benefit issues.
That may not be the way things are elsewhere ~ since the federales are a smaller part of the local constituency, but we have 1 out of 7 working for the federal government, and then just Fairfax alone has 180,000 lawyers ~ and you can imagine what they do.
