McDonnell appears on VP shortlist
The Washington Times ^ | July 26, 2012 | Ralph Z. Hallow

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell has emerged as one of three Republican officeholders who political handicappers say have the most potential to unify the party and boost the fortunes of GOP standard-bearer Mitt Romney as a running mate in November.

While Mr. Romney has revealed little about his vice-presidential search, Mr. McDonnell, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio are widely seen as reliable economic and social conservatives at a time when the party faces the possibility of factional divisions heading into next month’s convention in Tampa, Fla.

The Virginia governor, experienced analysts note, is a staunchly pro-life Catholic with a fiscally conservative reputation and no known opposition among evangelicals, whose votes have been vital to GOP electoral success and many of whom are skeptical about Mr. Romney’s Mormon religion.

The Virginia governor is considered a competent, and at times engaging, speaker not likely to upstage Mr. Romney — unlike, say, more charismatic figures such as Mr. Rubio or New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

I don't have any tweets - don't use twitter or FB - so it must be your tweets from AW you are addressing - YOU KNOW about them, I don't.

See how you exposed yourself?.....Or at least come up with better captions.

Does everything have to be explained to you? Who am I addressing? A poster who claims conservatism even in their screen name. We know mittbots/liberals lie - so MC finally was exposed who he/she really is - by just being himself through his rant.

Now should we start on 'humble'?

JR put up a “truce thread.” Suggest you read it.

Show us where in the truce thread it gives carte blanche to mittbots to show disrespect towards the owner of the site and then add their demands along what 'they think' free speech is about?

I suggest you reread it - liberals are all about - ANYTHING GOES!

McDonnell does not believe in abortion of any kind, for any reason and certainly does not believe in homo “marriage”.

So can you please explain your thoughts on McDonnell?

A link showing me where he supports homo “marriage” and
abortion would be appreciated.

Some of the FReepers on here think they’re going to TEACH the Republicans a lesson by not voting for Romney.

Perhaps some freepers already know that the Repubs are UNTEACHABLE while you never gave it a thought! They are light years ahead of you!

What part of deliberately endorsing a 'far left of Kennedy' liberal candidate to defeat obama shows a WINNING mindset? No one can teach a twisted mind like that anything - but mittbots claim that's all we got! Check out the meaning of insanity before you biotch and moan !

Maybe there is some truth to the phrase - the stupid party!

MORE truth in the "Willingly Wanting Defeat" Party and looking for someone to blame.

If the current occupant of the White Hut actually respected the Constitution and the doctrine of separation of powers, I’d agree with you. But Obama has already shown that he doesn’t give a flying damn about Congress. You could have 3/4 majorities in both the House and the Senate AND a solidly conservative Supreme Court and given the current spinelessness of Republicans in leadership positions, he’d STILL just go his merry way and pass whatever laws he wanted by executive orders.

If Obama gets back in office, he appoints Supreme Court justices (assuming the probability that at least one dies or retires in the next four years) and flips the court from conservative to liberal. Do you really think the Republicans in Congress will have the balls to stand up and fight Obama on appointments? We already got Kagan and Sotomayor thanks to them.

If Congress was (a) truly conservative, which it isn’t, and (b) aggressive, which it isn’t, then I might be willing to agree with you. But I can’t. I don’t like it but I am probably going to have to hold my nose and vote for Romney in the slim hope that he can be swayed more to the right. Because four more years of the Marxist-in-Chief running roughshod over the Constitution, unfettered by the eunuchs on Capitol Hill, is too horrible to contemplate.

okie01, just because I am NOT voting for Romney, does NOT mean I am voting FOR Obama.. I really wish you people would stop trying the ‘guilt trip’ method to vote for someone whom I am against (I am against BOTH of them).

A point MUST be made that we Conservatives are not taking this BS any longer.. either the GOP(e) get on the same page with us, or we will cast them out with a polite, ‘screw your socialist ideas, we don’t want it’.

We have lost a few great FReepers because of some crap like this (in the last 3+ years)... I don’t want to lose more good minded people hanging on the edge (This is JimRob’s site, and I feel the same as him about Conservatism.. we need to clean house to get the scum out of our party. We need to get Conservatives in the House and Senate to bleach (fumigate) the whole system, including the ‘tax-code..).

Speaking for myself, and my image of FreeRepublic, that is what this site is all about, keeping our freedoms and rights the way that the founders intended this great country to be. IF we say something similar to, “well, we lost this time with this candidate, but we will get them next time”, then they have won AGAIN.. (R) has been slipping to the left for decades.. we need to put a STOP to this.

WE need to make a statement, even IF Romney wins, we need to send a message to the GOP(e), get your crap in order, or you are all done and finished... WE don’t follow/support your crap.. and WE will change it. “GO the way of the WHIGS”.. bye-bye..

I didin’t post this to insult anyone... but I am trying to make the point so that many will understand where WE Conservatives are going... If it takes an Obama win to get the country into a Civil War, so be it.. whatever it takes.. IF Romney gets elected... we want him, and the GOP to know, we aren’t taking this socialist crap anymore (through the lack of support)...

I, in NO way support Obama.. but likewise, I will not support Romney either.

So can you please explain your thoughts on McDonnell?

If he endorses Mitt he is endorsing what godless Mitt endorses which is evil. I don't care what 'he says' - if someone is so opposed to somethings and yet endorses it - there is NO Truth in him!

You expose evil, you don't endorse it. It shows what really is inside of him - evil is stronger than what 'he says he believes' as it overtook him, he bowed to it and endorses it - he has been defeated of everything he claims he is for.

I’m not a Mittbot I wanted Newt and I was very upset about what happened in the Virginia primary. I do disagree with the state on the tolls and the ones coming on 95. However, McDonnell is a decent gov, certainly not a left winger. I’m not sure picking him would be a good move, but I would support a Mitt, BoB ticket over Obama any day. I want more conservative government and this could be a good start when you couple that with a gop controlled house and possible the senate.

I think that BoB could help in nova, and state wide, because while most will not agree with him on all issues, most would prefer him over Obama. There are a lot of moderates in nova, and he could help to cut into Obama support there, which would spell doom for Obama.

I also think he would help out greatly nationwide, because he is a good speaker and presents himself well. Not sure he would be the best choice. I’m not sure he is needed to help carry Virginia, but Goode may throw a wrench in the works, so maybe he is.

WRONG, HE was for him from the beginning and in the evil tactic of keeping a PATRIOT off the ballot. The guy doesn't expose evil but is a very part of it. So no more talk about what 'he says' his 'firm beliefs' are - save it for the easily deceived.

The media said the same about Barry. Seems conservatives are of the same mindset. Just push the looks with no substance, we will win the clueless every time. Doesn't matter what JOKER romney may choose - he's still evil and it doesn't change him one bit. Taking evil and trying to wrap it in something good to deceive, you still have evil at the core!

Goode is at 10%. After Romney's negative dealings with Virginia voters Virgil could easily end up with 35% or something.

Romney and his cronies in Virginia have demonstrated to us conclusively that they don't want to win.

The Republican party has a chance to fix that problem at the Convention.

McDonnell sold himself to the public as being more conservative than Craig Deeds. He won. Then he demonstrated he was actually more liberal than McAuliffe.

The consequence of that was the Super Tuesday multi-state primary turned into a pitiful helpless shadow of itself ~

Could you provide me with a link, please?

Don't want to get the ZOT through not keeping up.

My own position is that Romney is the GOP-e RINO wet dream, and in trying to throw the pesky conservatives under the bus, the GOP is wasting the best chance in 60 or 80 years to stop the relentless flood of Marxism-by-proxy into our government and institutions.

(And his torpedoing of Sarah during and after the last campaign is unforgiveable.)

BUT:

Obama would appoint William Ayers and George Soros to the Supreme Court and unilaterally disarm our nuclear weapons.

We CANNOT let him retain the White House.

I understand you and cannot fault you for voting Romney under those circumstances. It is those that actually are pro-Romney and using the ABO stance as a stealth way to promote Romney. That isn’t cool on FR, and Jim Robinson has affirmed this over and over.

Hey, those of us that refuse to vote for Romney because he is slime realize we are taking a chance. The problem is in this election is that whether one votes for Obama or Romney they are taking a chance. So, I have said I’m voting third party....of course that is taking a chance as well. However, at least I can live with my decision.

However, I will speak out how they are in favor of bringing evil in a different suit on America. The WEAK and UNTEACHABLE are always easy prey as they stand for nothing - just whatever way the wind blows or the current takes them. Very useful pawns for the GOP.

I’m grounded in Truth and that makes me against the current.

I understand the decision (to not vote for Romney) and I’m not going to fault anybody for taking it. That’s your choice. In the end, it’s an individual decision we each have to make when that curtain closes behind us. Romney is a risk, a BIG risk. I think I’m willing to take that risk—maybe—because the alternative is too horrible for me to chance. I’m darn sure not happy about it, though.
