I passed on getting one for several years. A couple of years ago I got a Bushmaster M4 A3, it’s now my favorite .223 rifle!!

I doubt that 1 AR15 has been sold here. A fully automatic military assault rifle?

Contrary to widely held belief by liberals, it is not illegal to own full auto firearms or suppressors. It's not even illegal to own belt fed full auto with no select feature for single shot. All that is required is a $200 tax stamp issued by the BATFE. You can create a revokable trust that is also transferrable (temporarily or permanent by inheritance) and use that as the vehicle to bypass rigid local law enforcement who may otherwise be required for signature of permission. Very few police chiefs in any metro area will sign such a document without risking a public lynching in the press for no reason. In all the time since this system took effect (70+ years) only one crime has been committed by a man with such a weapon AND the stamp and HE was a police officer who had access to such weapons, anyway! Tell me gun control is about the instruments and not about control of the law abiding.

Since they have gotten serious about building them the quality has increased.

Yeah, I'm aware of Oly's early quality problems, but I bought mine last year and it's gone through several thousand rounds without a problem of any kind, so I guess they worked it out.

Yeah, myself, everytime I see that pic of that young lady about to be shot, it gets me both angry and upset. Except for cases of super-high treason against the U.S., I'm generally against the death penalty, I wrestle with the question where I wonder if the State (also a convienent way to get "rid of" somebody as we see in the pic) should have the right to take a life outside of war or to stop a threat. That's my libertarian side I guess although I think there are other ways to deal with horrible criminals to make them suffer.

I have nothing against taking a life if it is to protect your home, family, friends, country and so on, if a crook tries to rob you or some terrorist or traitor wants to harm you and your country, then shoot and ask questions later.

Whether you disagree with me or not, one thing we can agree on is if the people in Red China had those AK's and AR's, I bet those soldiers would pay with their lives and whimper and cry for their lives from those people. Despite my reservations mentioned above, I would probably not step in and let the people have their way with those soldiers and rulers. I do say there are people in this world that do deserve the ultimate penalty though so hence I do struggle with it.

Even so, I'd love to walk up to the shooter and his accomplices and just say, "Yuns think you're big men, huh?" and whack them across the head with a 2x4. I wonder how they can go home at night and face their wives and kids. "Honey, who did your day at work go?" "Well, we only shot 400 people today." B-P

"...There are a whole world of available uppers and conversions for that “firearm."

Er... yeah... but... You can't exactly snap an AR-10 (7.62mm NATO) upper receiver onto an AR-15 5.56mm NATO lower. The calibers which actually DO permit this are "roughly" similar enough to permit magazines that fit the magazine well and stresses that the lower receiver can handle.

You have stated correctly indeed. Whilst “AR” does mean “Armalite Rifle”, Armalite no longer owns the rights to the term, “AR-15”. All of their 5.56mm NATO - .223 Rem rifles are named variously under their M-15 models.

Not to split hairs, but you might find this interesting. Originally, the AR-10 was significantly different from the AR-15. It "looked" a lot like the AR-15, but it really wasn't. The AR-15 was (as we all know) chambered for .223 Rem or 5.56mm NATO and had all the improvements built into it that the AR-10 lacked.

The AR-10 that we know of today that Armalite (and others) produces is a scaled UP version of the AR-15, not the other way around.

...useless trivia... but there you have it. :-)

"You're correct, of course. But I've given up correcting people who say 'clip' when they mean 'magazine.'

I know a guy where I work who will NOT stop doing it as well. It drives me up the freakin wall. :-) I know what he means though.

The list was copied from ar15.com forum (which I attributed).
I can not speak to it’s accuracy.

“...I wrestle with the question where I wonder if the State ... should have the right to take a life outside of war...”

Who “gives” them the “right”? Nobody. They TAKE it.

Our Constitution is a contract; a piece of paper which all parties agreed to be bound to.

Over the years, one side bent the rules, then the other side bent them a little further, and then the other got back in power, etc., etc... and we are we are right now.

We have one entire political party that is not just bending the rules, they’re IGNORING them, and spitting in the faces of the majority of the country with their actions.

Their attitude is “Let’s see how far we can push this...”

The ChiComs seized control of the Chinese government, and drove the Nationalists off the mainland to Taiwan (Formosa). Then they set about slaughtering hundreds of thousands of innocent people, all in the name of Socialism and creating the Socialist Worker’s Paradise.

They don’t worry about silly ideas called “rights’; they point the muzzle of a gun, and they tell you what to do, period.

Why? Because they can, and because they disarmed everyone. Mao said it best - political power grows from the barrel of a gun. AKs and other weapons in the hands of citizens equalize the situation; Commie party officials would act a LOT differently if there was the remotest chance that they’d be shot through the head.

But they took away everyone’s ability to fight back so they would have a monopoly on the coercive use of force.

“...Despite my reservations mentioned above, I would probably not step in and let the people have their way with those soldiers and rulers....”

You have the right to believe what you want to believe. Me, I’d just as soon start performing .308 ballistic cranial surgery on those b*stards from long range to help those folks out.

That girl is a KID. A kid who hadn’t yet even had a chance to live life. And there’s agents of the State murdering her.

Libertarian views, conservative views, liberal views, democrat or republican views...what does it matter when thugs are trying to murder you and your family? Thugs with badges, thugs with baggy panst around their asses, thugs with uniforms and snazzy caps with shiny hammer and sickle badges..they’re all the same to me. I see no difference - I see the potential enemy of my right to be left alone.

As for “whacking them with a 2x4”, they don’t understand that. They’d laugh at it. They would however, understand a 7.62 round crashing into their communist heads, though; Solzhenitsyn said something to the effect of How different things would have been had every Soviet Agent been in fear of his life, and had to worry EVERY NIGHT when he went on a round-up, how different would it have been if THEY had to worry about getting shot, stabbed, clubbed, gassed, burned, etc.

But they didn’t have to worry, so millions of innocent people died.

Even Gandhi who “generally” was against violence, said that if the choice was between cowardice or violence, he’d take violence every time (not calling you a coward, so don’t take it that way).

There’s no moral high road when dealing with the State and the murderous agents of it; there’s life and the defense of it - and there’s state-sponsored murder due to lack of fear of the people.

Personally, I think every one of those ChiCom guards deserves to be shot through the head, and I have ZERO problem with it. That could just have easily have been MY daughter or your daughter (if you have one) there.

You can extrapolate that to any “State” you wish. It still stands.

Any politician of any party that wants to lead us there is the enemy of all that this country stands for.

Good points, tyrants and their ilk who do things that that to that young lady and so forth deserve the ultimate punishment. Traitors and these folks deserve the death penalty. Still, prior to sending them to God for judgement, I'd still like to slap them with a 2x4 and rub a few pistol butts on them and see how they like it.

I bet if a platoon of us would capture those Chi-Com guards ad we put them up against a wall, I bet you my next paycheck, they'd be wimpering to mommy and pleasing to us to spare them.

I guess I should be clear, I'm generally not for the death penalty in almost all criminal cases, but crap like this is an exception, beyond the pale, as you pointed out, if we got into a war with them they'd kill us so we'd must do the same to them, that is the language they understand. I think we need to foster a more business friendly climate in the U.S., we should not be doing business with those people. We owe these people money too, if I was President, I'd tell them to "flake off."

“...I guess I should be clear, I’m generally not for the death penalty in almost all criminal cases,...”

When it comes to homicidal criminals, I have no problem with the death penalty being applied. As far as I see it, when you wantonly murder another human being or human beings in cold premeditated murder, you forfeit your right to ANY decent “humane” treatment and should be executed like a mad, rabid animal.

What’s the benefit of keeping a POS like Charlie Manson alive, or any other POS found guilty beyond all reasonable doubt?

Same goes for governments. Government agents should be held just as responsible and accountable for their actions as well.

There’s a difference between killing and murder; killing in self-defense or to defend your family is not the same as the lunatic trying to murder you for your Air Jordans and 20 bucks in your wallet.

A society protects its Citizens by killing a convicted psychotic murderer to remove him from causing further harm.

Does the State abuse this? Yeah, sometimes. It’s like anything else. You can always point to the incident where something went wrong in the court, etc., but I think overall they get it right.

But Communist states raised it to an art form. The National Socialists were absolute rank amateurs compared to Stalin and his International Socialists.
