A 19-year-old man stepped up when he saw a young mother and her children in danger the night of the Batman premier theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado. Jarell Brooks is by all accounts a hero, but he doesn't want you to think of him that way. However, he very possibly saved three lives early Friday morning, and for that, he deserves the highest praise one can get.
Legarreta said she doesn't remember everything that happened but is aware that without Brooks, she and her children would not be alive today.
Brooks was on his way out the door and was at the end of the aisle when he saw her. "My kids!" she yelled, and the teenager knew what he had to do.
"My goal was to get this family out, without getting hit myself. I managed to do one." Both he and Legarreta were hit by the gunman's bullets.
Meanwhile, Jamie Rohrs, Legarretas' boyfriend, was nowhere to be found. He fled the scene after hiding the baby under a seat near his girlfriend after jumping over the balcony and running around. He told TV cameras that when Ethan began crying, his first thought was that the gunman would come and get him, so he put his child on the floor and left the three people he loves the most to be saved by a total and complete stranger.
Her boyfriend had jumped in a car after fleeing the chaos, supposedly to drive back there to pick them up to take them to the hospital, according to a person named Jesse Rohrs, who identified himself as his brother. However, that story simply doesn't wash because Rohrs had left the building before she got injured.

He told them that he put the child on the floor so they could be saved by a total stranger. Incredible. God I love the writing and editing on this piece(sarcasm).
Young, brave, and selfless black men make up a significant minority of our miitary.
Who takes little children to the cinema at midnight?
Preach it, FW. The woman desides to marry the coward...go figure.
She accepted because she is not yet listening to the same circuit in her brain.
This is what a real selfless hero looks like. God bless you Mr. Brooks.
Costanza claimed he was clearing a path that the others could follow.
He looks like a total loser.
Patriots save America so she can hitch her wagon to liberal cowardice.
Not to be a Danny Downer here but this story is sad all the way around.
1. Who in their right mind takes a small child, little lone an infant, to a midnight showing of ANY movie? That’s what babysitters are for.
2. The father in this situation is only a sperm donor, a real father would not have left his kids behind like that. Bravado aside, I would have done everything to ensure I or my child (and wife) out of harm’s way. If that meant I didn’t make it, I could make peace with that.
3. The girl better wake up and dump the father, maybe look at the hero for emotional support. The father of those two kids have already demonstrated when the going got tough, he’d leave his kids to fend for themselves. Does she think he wouldn’t do the same again?
Why would this young man even consider marrying a broad as stupid as she is? Sure, he saved her and her children, but that doesn’t mean he should be punished by marrying the stupid twit. Leave her with the loser. She obviously doesn’t have the sense to place any higher value on herself.
His first thought was for his own safety. Unbelievable.
At 19, the one on the right is a MAN. The other guy, picture further down the thread, is just a weenie.
According to earlier articles , she and her boyfriend are 25 years old .
I’m sure she has been with him long enough to know what kind of prize she’s getting.
The face of enthusiasm.
They most certainly do!
Brooks was a hero, so it’s unlikely Obama could relate to him.
When is the Pre’sent going to announce, “If I had a son, he’d look like Jerrel Brooks”? Now that would be somebody to be proud of. (Brooks, I mean.)
