Federal documents show Romney tied to company that disposes of aborted babies

As presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney surged in fundraising after the Supreme Court’s decision on the Affordable Care Act, new questions have arisen about the candidates potential ties to a company known for its disposal of aborted fetuses.

Mother Jones reports the reality of Romney’s downplayed connection with Stericycle who provides what is, perhaps, one of the most despicable business services in our nation. A medical waste company, Stericycle is infamous for its willingness to go to various abortion centers and pick up the remains of aborted babies and dispose of them as medical waste. Federal documents from the Securities and Exchange Commission show the dates in which Romney reports being connected with his investment company don’t match up with the dates in which he was listed as being involved with a large investment in Stericycle, which leads us to ask if he was connected with Stericycle at times they were disposing of aborted fetuses.

Originally reported by the Huffington Post in January, Romney’s camp managed to avoid it as a campaign issue by insisting, as the news outlet reports:

“By the time Bain Capital [Romney’s investment firm] had made the investment in Stericycle, he had left the firm to run the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. He maintained ownership in Bain and kept holdings in its private equity funds, which included Stericycle stock, but he had no say in the managerial or strategic decisions at the firm, according to Bain officials.”

However, recent documents from the Securities and Exchange (SEC) Commission filed by Romney’s firm show that the timing wasn’t quite how Romney portrayed it. The document from November 22, 1999, reports, “W. Mitt Romney (“Mr. Romney”) is the sole stockholder, sole director, Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director and President of BCI VI Inc,” (SEC FORM SC 13D) in the Stericycle investment.

That means Romney was an active member of the firm when the $75 million investment was made in Stericycle. Stericylce isn’t just a medical waste business that is above board.  As recently as last year, Stericylce was cited for improper disposal of fetuses in Texas. For a quick rundown of some news articles about Stericycle’s seedy history, click here. You will find a list of fines, truck leasing companies breaking contracts with them because of their fetus disposal business, and other serious controversies that the pro-life candidate must distance himself from by addressing these issues and either showing us proof there was no abortion activity back then or publicly addressing the wrongdoing and breaking his tie with them in keeping with his pro-life conversion, rather than simply misleading the American people about the dates he was there. It’s a concern if Romney actually was the “sole shareholder” as the SEC documents say, unquestionably say he was.  You can read the filings from the SEC documents here and here. (Simply do a search within them for the name “Romney” and it will show you the relevant shareholder information.)

This information clearly contradicts what the Romney camp reported publicly in January. That is unacceptable and raises a serious issue for pro-lifers who have embraced him as a pro-life candidate.

There are too many unanswered questions to let this issue be a non-issue in this race. The man running on a pro-life platform actually was the “sole shareholder” in a company that made a $75 million investment in a company that has for an indeterminate amount of time profited directly from from the shedding of innocent blood. Their work helps polluted the land with bloodshed, putting fetuses in incinerators and waste areas. Stericycle is evasive in its responses to those who question its abortion business, claiming that abortion is only a “small portion” of its business, which is only true on a technicality. There are only a few hundred abortion centers in the nation and many more medical facilities that need waste services; however, Stericycle is the largest provider of disposing of fetal remains.  Stop Stericycle.com reports:

Aside from the fact that we have recorded phone calls of Stericycle’s own representatives admitting that they accept fetal remains, many people are confused about Stericycle’s waste acceptance policy. The vaguely worded policy does not mention fetal remains, but rather craftily states that “complete human remains” are unacceptable. Stericycle has told the Campaign to Stop Stericycle (CSS) that it does not know when a fetus is considered to be human, and that the determination is up to the abortion mill and state law. Obviously, abortion mills never admit that aborted babies are human.

Additionally, during an undercover investigation, the Campaign to Stop Stericycle obtained a hypothetical contract for an abortion mill in which the pickup of fetal remains was included. CSS was also informed that the abortion mill would receive “incinerate only” stickers so that the fetal remains would be incinerated.

Furthermore, Stericycle is currently under government investigation in the state of Texas for illegally dumping aborted fetuses into a municipal landfill. During the initial investigation, Stericycle representatives told the government that “medical waste containing fetuses or tissue should be sent for incineration,” and that aborted fetuses in Texas should be transported to Stericycle’s plant in Apopka, Florida to be incinerated.

Because of such a clear controversy of pro-life issues, and the reports which show that the Romney’s investment firm ultimately profited $49.5 million from the Stericycle investment. There are two important questions we must address:

First, we do not have any evidence that the aborted fetal remains pick-ups began after Romney left the firm. Records like this are not easily available unless one knows what he is seeking exactly. StopStericycle.com has records from 2003, which is after Romney left, but until Stericycle or Romney can provide evidence that Stericycle’s suddenly started its business with fetuses after Romney sold his investment, we can’t conclusively be satisfied that was the case.

Second, Romney claims a pro-life conversion, though he does allows for exceptions in certain cases. He must address his relationship with the abortion profiteer. Even if some evidence exists showing perhaps it was after he sold his investment, Stericycle began this practice, Romney needs to address this to pro-lifers because he is running on a pro-life platform but is tied in some ways to a business linked to abortion since clearly the dates of his involvement were not as he reported.

 We are a nation that endorses and sanctions the shedding of innocent blood, and we must draw a clear and bold line in the pro-life community that doesn’t allow for a blur that might have occurred in the name of business.

Romney cannot remain silent on this issue. After the inconsistencies about the dates, we know, it’s not enough to assume a conclusion that they didn’t pick up fetuses then.

According to Stericycle, “We became a publicly traded company in 1996, and emerged as North America’s largest provider of medical waste services in 2000.

So when did fetus pick up begin? How does the now pro-life Romney address this? The lines blur too much, and while we hope that some evidence may exist to show that Stericycle did not get involved in the abortion industry until after Romney left, we have not seen that. An all or nothing approach to abortion is a losing proposition.

As opposed to the "nothing" approach that has worked so well for forty years, right?

In America, our assertion of the right to life is premised on equality before God. In other words, it truly is for all of us, or it is nothing.

And, you're either alive or you're dead. Again, all or nothing.

The idea that you can fudge on equality or life is in fact completely destructive of every decent moral, constitutional or legal argument against abortion.

Surrender equality and you've already lost. Abortion on demand is the result. And we have forty years of bloody history to prove it.

Tyrrell did mention Mother Jones’ reporting. Mother Jones reported this out to make mileage off an issue they themselves fully support. I rightfully addressed that.

Okay, let me ask you this. The unborn have been aborted. What next?

Has Tyrrell or any other abortion protester or protester group or any entity whatsoever stepped forward to offer some form of humane treatment for the bodies of these destroyed fetuses?

I like that Tyrrell is active in anti-abortion activities. I’m just not convinced she’s being realistic here. These fetus body parts do need to be processed in some manner. What’s her alternative?

Seems to me complaining about Stericycle is rather pointless, if there is no alternative. If she and others don’t like that fact, they should develop an alternative. They could also think outside the box and contact Stericycle to see if they might be willing to develop an alternative along the lines of what I mentioned in my post.

The NAACP didn't win by simply going to court and demanding an end to all segregation immediately.

As it turned out, of course, he had only to fix up the looks of Sonny's thoroughly massacred corpse without any personal culpability.

Bonaserra's willingness to engage in imagined but never consummated complicity in many possible murders vs. Mittler/Bain Capital/Stericycle making the big bucks greedily enabling abortion mills? Bonaserra's fault was in thought. Mittler/Bain/Stericycle was a fault in deed and for utterly corrupt money (the habit of their lifetimes unlike the previously honest but now fallen Bonaserra). Moral disadvantage: Romney and his co-conspirators.

By the way, the butchers would not cooperate with you in handing over the remains of the murdered children. They will only do so to those who will treat them as debris to be disposed of in incinerators or landfills.

Evidently you’re under the impression I don’t care if little boys and girls are aborted.

I would like to know what you base that on. If you can find any statement or inference I have ever made to support that idea, I’d sure like to be linked to it.

Now, until abortions are stopped, could you please explain what alternative you know of, to a company like Stericycle picking up the bodies and disposing of them?

Please tell us what program you are aware of that can be implemented to improve upon what Stericycle does, until abortions are outlawed.

I have been quite vocal and adamant about my intention to withhold my vote this year. Neither Obama or Romney have one chance in hell of getting it.

I am not defending Romney here. I am berating the idiots at Mother Jones. I am also taking people to task who damn something for which there is presently no alternative.

I am also defending reason.

Once we are dead we are all waste.

Why do you think all the containment requirements were put on whole body burials? The sealed metal coffin and concrete vault are not to preserve the body. They are to prevent all the embalming fluids and other stuff from entering the environment.

The point is not that Stericycle handles fetuses and arms, legs, internal organs (you know, parts), fingers, toes, blood and other body fluids. The point is that Romney is the devil incarnate to some people and anything that can be said to make him look bad, and to support Obama, is OK.

BTW: This discussion made me have an idea (RUN!).

Why not make it illegal to dispose of any human torso or head, except through a funeral home? That ought to run up planned parenthood's cost.

Stericycle picks up the aborted fetuses now.

If a group of concerned people were to approach the company and explain that they would like to see the remains treated humanely, and explained in detail a plan to do so, I’m not convinced Stericycle would take a pass on mitigating it’s image concerning the matter.

IMO confusing people performing truly evil deeds with people performing a necessary service that in some ways makes things easier for those performing the evil deed is a morally bankrupt position.

Baloney. The NAACP had a deliberate strategy to attack segregation, and it took a decade to implement. They didn't go filing lawsuits willy-nilly, and they didn't demand an immediate end to all segregation. Care to show some evidence to the contrary?

I had the privilege of becoming acquainted with a very elderly Jewish man from Poland who, as a teenager, was arrested by the Nazis, taken to Auschwitz, and, since he was very strong, required to dig graves until Auschwitz was liberated. He candidly but modestly discussed his experiences with me at the home of his daughter whose husband was a close friend of mine.

For your edification, there is a substantial moral distinction between that now deceased gentleman being credibly ordered to dispose of the bodies of his fellow Jews whose only imagined crime was to have been born Jewish (therefore relatives of Abraham but also of Mary and Jesus Christ) or be promptly murdered himself and Mittler lusting over profits to be made quite voluntarily from investments in a baby-disposal service like Stericycle.

He resigned from NARAL despite having a very lucrative abortion business in New York City. He was then invited by a colleague to witness a second trimester abortion at Bellevue Hospital. What he saw convinced Dr. Nathanson that the second trimester infant victim was alive, aware and had fought against an amniocentesis needle as a threat. Making logical conclusions, he determined to abandon abortion as a way of life. He and his wife Adele created the Bernadele Foundation with the proceeds of the sale of his business interests in the abortion operations. Bernadele Foundation is exclusively devoted to supporting the pro-life cause. He then became a Christian and finally a Roman Catholic. He has died and cannot tell you anything directly other than in his books and films like Silent Scream. Did Romney return the profits he made from the dead babies or devote the money to pro-life causes??? Did he ever stop lying about abortion for a moment in his somewhat adult life? Of course not.

As to Norma McCorvey, nice try trashing her. She was taken advantage of by Sarah Weddington, a pro-abort "cause" attorney who apparently required her, as a condition of representing her as to a child custody dispute with McCorvey's mother over Norma's child, to allow the bringing of a legal action against Henry Wade, a prosecutorial county attorney, based upon a false affidavit, which became "Roe vs. Wade" and which challenged Texas's irrationally liberal abortion statutes (allowing very early abortions while prohibiting later ones. Yale Law Professor Thomas Emerson (responsible for Griswold vs. Connecticut) joined up later. Miss Norma was a sorry mess of a human being, a terrible mother, an itinerant carnival worker, and dead broke but she was about to be used by some pretty classy legal help successfully seeking to make baby murder a national norm particularly for the peasants but also for embarrassed Junior Leaguers (an idea that thrilled Clan Romney and their ilk). A lady named Sara Scorvino, trying to obtain effective legal help to collect substantial back child support was being likewise used by unscrupulous counsel in Georgia. Fast forward: Miss Norma becomes involved in a lesbian affair with the boss of a Texas Planned Barrenhood abortion mill who employs her there; is treated with respect and kindness by anti-abortion protestor Rev. Mr. Flip Benham; ponders the emptiness of local playgrounds, blames herself, comes out as a pro-lifer and remains so decades later. Norma McCorvey, Sara Scorvino and the two daughters that they had unsuccessfully sued to abort ALL wound up as activists in Operation Rescue which took a bit more Moxie than Governor Etch-a-Sketch had to have to test he wind currents and lie to us all.

Am I unfair to Romney in calling him a liar??? Other than his well-deserved reputation as the most accomplished liar in American public life on practically everything, there are the circumstances of his "conversion" to pro-life and his subsequent behavior. He CLAIMS to have been "converted" when having to ponder the question of permitting and funding embryonic stem cell research as governor. If so, he was probably the only "convert" as a result of that nuance of the abortion issue ever discovered. Though opposing embryonic stem cell research is certainly the pro-life position, viewed purely as an issue it was a loser though principled people will take losses for principle. That was late 2004. TWO YEARS LATER in 2006, Mittler was conniving successfully with Ted Kennedy and others to create Romneycare, complete with a maximum charge for abortion of $50 (subsequently to become FREE!!!! under successor Coupe DeVille) and Planned Barrenhood permanently on its board to protect its victory.

TO BOTH OF YOU (Clara Lou and Blathernaut) and any other Mittler or Obozo pom pom girls:

The lampshade makers were guilty of murder if they were not coerced. Likewise, BOTH Romney voters and Obozo will be similarly guilty for their uncoerced decision to materially cooperate with either of the abortionists currently expected to be nominated by the major parties. Both of these despicable leftist candidates are enthusiasts for persecution of pro-life churches and their ministries and enthusiastic cheerleaders for fudge-packing and other disorders posing as "marriage."

Okay, then you’re perfectly comfortable with those little body parts being defiled further. Thank you for your honesty.

I proposed an effort to pick up those bodies, bury them in mass graves, and publicize it so that the public could physically see the stark reality of their support for abortion.

Seeing hundreds if not thousands of acres of mass graves and markers dedicated to the memory of the slaughtered unborn, made sense to me.

So far, you haven’t even had the decency to agree.

I know that you are anti-abortion, and I respect that. Unfortunately I believe you’re so focused on blame here, that you are blinded to something that could actually make a massive impact on public opinion, one that would advance your cause more than you can evidently grasp.

Says the man who demaznds all or nothing. The Roe decision is law, so any bill which roles back one or more of the killing processes works to save lives. THAT didn’t fit with your empowerment scheme to demand all or nothing, so you oopsed the ban on partial birth abortions. That showed you were using the slaughter as an empowerment scheme for YOU. What a bloody hypocrite you are to pretend righteousness when you are more than willing for tens of thousands of children to be sacrificed so you can continue to demand all or nothing.
