Young people can live anywhere. And if they love NY, they’ll certainly like these little apartments. I have a small apartment in “Curry Hill” in Manhattan. It looks like a doll’s house with a miniature fridge and stove. So cute.

And the miniscule living quarters don’t come cheap: most renters are currently facing average market-rate rents of $2,000 per month for a studio and $2,700 per month for a one-bedroom.

Housing Preservation and Development Commissioner Mathew Wambua said he expected the micro-units would rent for significantly less.

Only if you are Charlie Rangel. lol

I agree with you. This idea sucks and is just another stepping stone towards a THX1138/Logan’s Run/Clockwork Orange dystopian society.

(Dystopia is defined as a society characterized by poverty, squalor, or oppression)

Question is...do you have your own bathroom? These won’t. Guaranteed!

As an isolated unit here and there, a micro apartment is fine. It meets a market demand.

But to have an entire building of micro apartments is a disaster.

It wouldn’t take much for a building of micro apartments to become a brothel, a drug den, a place for single moms with multiple irresponsible children, etc.

Smokin Joe, it's been a long time, no see and missing you. I'm every intrested that you're doing fine and how goes things with the Bakken? I had a bit of a setback on a health issue three weeks ago, but some things are returning.
Joe, I always found you to be the knowledgeable mentors in the oil patch, I hope God is taking care of you. Recondad.

You call that living? You’ve lived in inner-city squallor for so long that you think it is normal.

"if you buy one house and live in it all your life, you pay your instection fees, closing costs, points, etc.. one time. but if you keep moving into new joints, you pay those fees, costs and expsnses over and over again. and that money is gone forever, you don’t recoup that."

If you buy a house you pay yearly real estate taxes, school taxes, fees, fines, violations, lawyers, handyman, contractor, plumber, permits, lawyers ....

City makes more money on homeowners. They're easy prey. It's because of tenants that they receive violations mostly because tenants ignore city laws. The landlord pays for tenant disobedience.

The 20’ models do well as a hidden bunker when buried next to an existing basement...

Give me land, lots of land beneath the starry skies. Don’t fence me in. Let me ride the wide open spaces, don’t fence me in.

Ha! What do you know?

I also own a pretty house in NJ. Pied a terres are very common in NYC. Places to drop after you’ve had dinner and seen a B’way show. I love my little apartment and so does my husband.

I’m sooooooooo sick of the city haters on this site.

A single room in the Chelsea Hotel is $200 a night. The Y has no vacancies.

From Amazon:

Most Helpful Customer Reviews Fascinating, hilarious view of 1850s New York May 10, 2010 By Aunt Charlotte Thank goodness the NYT reviewed this; I snapped it up and have read it through twice, frequently laughing out loud and just as often gasping in shock. A human, funny, offensive, very lively and colorful tour of New York boarding houses, apartments, tenements in the mid-19th century (the author's adventures seem to have taken place in the 1840s and early '50s). I alternately fell in love with Gunn and wanted to sock him on the jaw. But you will never forget this book and will want to come back and dip into it often. The illustrations, too, are priceless. Bravo! to the publisher for reissuing this!

The nanny state in Florida outlawed boarding houses... It's a shame - a perfect way for the unemployed to create an income - and a nice starter - away from home the first time place - a safe transition. In today's world it would be a comfort for boomers unable to maintain a home. When I think about these places being outlawed it's one more reminder why I hate control-freak liberal elites.

More likely it would be filled with young careerists. My only trouble with it would be the hard partying on Saturday night.

Is the Chelsea even open? It was closed the last time I looked due to renovations. Hope its security is better than it has been in the past.
