A conservative federal judge appointed by Ronald Reagan said in an interview published Thursday that the Republican Party has gone goofy and that these right-wingers who are blasting [Chief Justice John] Roberts are making a very serious mistake.
I mean, what would you do if you were Roberts? Judge Richard Posner, of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, told NPR. All of a sudden you find out that the people that you thought were your friends have turned against you, they despise you, they mistreat you, they leak to the press, what do you do? Do you become more conservative? Or do you say, What am I doing with this crowd of lunatics?

And don't you just love how the progressive journalist starts out the article by citing Reagan?
"That's right, you damn conservatives", says the progressive journalist, "get back onto the GOP plantation!"
How is this for party unity? The republicans don't want party unity with conservatives! The GOP-E is out to defeat us every bit as much as we are out to defeat them!
JUST SAY NO TO THE GOP-ESTABLISHMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What if Roberts had ruled to overturn Obama care? Liberals would be sending death threats and marching on the court. Would Posner bother to condemn them? Frankly I doubt it because such behavior is expected from the true loons on the left.
excuse me? YOU TURNED ON US, then wonder why we turn on you.
Posner is the one who needs to lighten up. Roberts made a very serious error that allowed the communists to tighten the noose around the necks of Americans. There is no getting out of this one. ObamaCare isn’t going to go away. Don’t ever feed the bears.
Posner may be a conservative, but he is a judge before he is a conservative or American. Thou shalt not criticize krytocrat
Delegates to the convention need to ask themselves what they are doing there.
If you have to wonder why you’re a Conservative simply because others in the Conservative movement don’t like you, then you are NO CONSERVATIVE. Conservative is not a team, but ideological movement. If you have Conservative ideology, and some member Conservative team turn on you, it shouldn’t change your ideology, unless you never have it in the first place
Well said.
All of a sudden you find out that the people that you thought were your friends have turned against you, they despise you, they mistreat you, they leak to the press, what do you do? Do you become more conservative? Or do you say, What am I doing with this crowd of lunatics?
They turned on Roberts because he sold the Constitution, and consequentially, his supporters out.
It’s not a real hard concept to understand unless you don’t want to understand it.
What an asswipe.
Posner - Ive become less conservative since the Republican Party started becoming goofy, he said.
Posner is a statist RINO. Levin ripped this guy up and down today.
Republican does not equal conservative. Never has, and has never been so far away as now.
I’m not too critical of Roberts because I think he’s a liberal and he voted like one. I don’t think he was bribed or intimidated or tricked. I just think he’s a liberal.
For those unfaMILiar with Posner’s ruling in Willowbrook v. Olech, might I suggest that Posner came down on the side of the individual. He referred to the City of Willowbrook’s argument as “blaming the victim, with a vengeance”.
Having said that, the reason we are faced with Bammy, ad nauseam is that commies infiltrated academia and agencies generations ago.
Either take back the schools or see America go FULL COMMIE ! ! !
Levin made it clear that Posner has become a buffoon. It was wonderful to listen to. Posner doesn’t have a problem with Captain Kangaroo selling out America? REAL Americans DO. Roberts is a loathesome traitor, and his reputaion is shot to hell. Nothing and no one can restore it. Bob
Oh, boo hoo.
We're hurting Roberts' feelings?
What's he going to do, sell the country into socialism and set legal precedent that will keep us in socialism for generations to come?
Oh. Wait...
To me, he is a smarmy American traitor who, if the law is not overturned, will be remembered as a man who sold his countrymen down the river for a few words of praise from the Washington Post. Scum!!! Bob
I mean, what would you do if you were Roberts?
.........................................................
My FRIGGIN JOB. I would have done what I get paid for.
To rule things unConstitutional that ARE unConstitutional.
Not to rewrite it for Obama.
Standing by for the Romney ballwashers to arrive spouting insults and Party Over Principle rhetoric.
So, Posner thinks we should bring our own vaseline, bend over, and beg for more. I think not!
Well said. Anyone who “abandons” his principles b/c his “friends” say negative things about him never had principles to cast off anyway.
This confuses me. Roberts said it’s a tax. The republicans are out yelling “This is a tax!” If it’s a tax does congress not have the authority to levy it? If it’s not a tax then the republicans are idiots.
There was a cause, which this judge conveniently ignored. He should square out the first step before condemning the others.
One more person supposedly on the right tells us that even if we are served crap sammich, we are going to love it too.
We're hurting Roberts' feelings?"
Don't worry about Roberts. He's off on his annual summer Mediterranean vacation with his long time boyfriend. He left smiling, arrived smiling and will return smiling.
George Wallace once said that some goofy judge deserved a barbed wire enema. Well, this goofy hack in black just administered one to all of US. Posner is either suffering from dementia or ivory tower hemmorhoids. Bob
So, criticism from the right will also cause Roberts to become a liberal according to Judge Posner?
A week ago it was the fear of criticism from the left that cause him to turn liberal.
This rule: No matter the source of the criticism, Judge Roberts turns liberal.
The moral of the story: Roberts will go lib in the big decisions.
Captain Kangaroo is a rump ranger?
LOL,
Roberts wants to be the second coming of John Marshall and is going to become the second coming of Megan McCain?
Not so simple. Congress does not have the same plenary taxing authority of a parliament. At least the language of the constitution does not allow them to tax anything and everything. Calling what the acts calls a penalty a tax, is a novel use of the term. If the Court takes what Roberts as precedent,it has great expanded the taxing power.
For example: Past pro bono work, pics of good times past with his current co-professor on Malta (wife and kids at home).
I like to think of Roberts as the Spirit of Rodney King "Can we all get along?"
Well, the good judge should join the ‘sane’ Occupoopers.
These guys are liberals and they want both parties to be liberal. Tough.
One party will be for constitutional freedom and Western culture and ethics and free market economy and the other will be Marxist. These ELITIST limo-liberal globalist prisses can KMA. They are going to be harassed and run out on a rail if they are liberals screwing conservatives and our goals in the Republican party.
So are you saying that blackmail may have played a part in his scurrilous decision?
No, just that facts are emerging and Roberts is likely to lean to the social justice side of issues.
I agree that what showed was his, i.e. Roberts, liberal thinking. However, I also believe that he was given a nudge/suggestion based on something the public is not to know. He should have been given more vetting but apparently the nomination by Bush was taken to mean a conservative was being offered.
And you trust this guy's judgement on this decision?
This pantload Posner must have taken the brown LSD. All of a sudden, Judge, we found out that the person we thought was our friend is instead a traitorous coward who shot America in the head and then scurried off to a foreign country on "vacation". How hard is this to figure out?
“Social justice” says individual rights be damned.
I don’t trust anyone in the media on all things. He’s not perfect. And actually, as much as I’ve heard Levin dis “Birthers” in the past, I haven’t heard him say Obama is constitutionally eligible.
Roberts has come out of the closet as a Federal Statist. He’s not for Personal Liberty for you.
I just don't recall him promising to be a "conservative" when he was being confirmed. I remember him likening himself to an umpire, calling balls and strikes. Of course, that kind of assurance is not too illuminating, but more importantly, that kind of assurance is intentionally not too illuminating.
Some umpires have large strike zones and some umpires have smaller, less liberal strike zones. Once the pitchers and batters get to know each umpire, they can adjust their game.
I guess it's about time we start adjusting to our new Chief Umpire. It seems he's a liberal.
So NPR sniffed around until they found some no-account hump. Typical.
One aspect about this brouhaha that intrigues me is that apparently the law never was explicit as to all the funding to be done. Perhaps if the Republicans had contested/objected to the law based on lack of clearly defined funding the SC would have had to do a different take than just assuming it has power to set taxes. Of course Roberts and cohearts would have gone the commerce route. As the Green Hornet used to say “who knows what evil lurks in the heart of man?.
In reading the ruling, Roberts seems more like a mental patient than anything else.
“Do you become more conservative?”
OK, let’s turn that logic around. Zero ridiculed Robert’s court in about the most public forum there is, the State of the Union address.
That didn’t turn Roberts into a (take your MSM pick) arch/ ultra/hardcore conservative. Maybe he’s into `slap & tickle’?
(AND SEE, adj. `conservatives’: constantly erect, super-duper pooping, hyper-meanie, Medusa-like, evil Nazi, barking mad; `progressives’: Democrats, moderates, and th-th-th-that’s all. Journalists’ Stylebook, 4th ed.)
If this issue were a run of the mill decision..I might agree with Posner, but since it is one of the keystones of a socialist USA..and one that sets us on a nearly irreversible plunge into slavery to the state...he deserves every bit.
