Restaurant Faces Investigation For Offering Church Discount

A family-owned restaurant in Pennsylvania is under a state discrimination investigation for offering a ten percent discount for diners who present a church bulletin on Sundays.

The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission confirmed there is an investigation against Prudhomme’s Lost Cajun Kitchen in the town of Columbia. The complaint was filed by John Wolff, a retired electrical engineer.

“I did this not out of spite, but out of a feeling against the prevailing self-righteousness that stems from religion, particular in Lancaster County,” Wolff told the York Daily Record. “I don’t consider it an earth-shaking affair, but in this area in particular, we seem to have so many self-righteous religious people, so it just annoys me.”

I hope the petty tyrants responsible for abusing government power are either fired or voted out of office.

Did you hear about the big meet and greet of your newest Democratican US Senate candidate?

I have a solution. They could have a day where they give a discount to morons. They could call it “Dumba$$ Day”. That way Mr. John Wolff could get his discount. The only problem is that he would have to stand in line to get in to the place because of all the Democrats...

Mark Levin brought it up on tonights show. He made a good point,,as always, what about senior citizen discounts. Can someone who is not a senior complain.

Columbia is a quiet little town in north central Pa. Very frustrating to have to go through something like this but the owners, good for them, are not backing down.

Clutching my gun and Bible in PA...:)

then we should ALL pay NO taxes, like 50% of the population. What’s fair is fair. I feel discriminated against....

You need to be hyphenated.....

You're a 'Taxpayer-American'
(OK, we're hyphenated, let's sue! :>)

Around our town, vets get a free meal at several restaurants on Veteran’s Day. Mr. Wolfe can kiss my self-righteous butt.

The discount he is not getting is simply a penalty for not going to church. It is not a tax or discrimination. Just ask Roberts.

We had a Popeye’s Chicken franchise in Austin that offered discounts if you brought in a Sunday church bulletin until it burned down.

Coincidence?

I suspect it’s more likely to be covered in a penumbra emanating from interpretations of many and varied other sources. :)

NOTICE OF POLICY CHANGE:

In response to a complaint filed by citizen John Wolff we are no
longer able to offer a discount to diners who present a church
bulletin on Sundays.

In place of the Sunday discount we will now donate to the church
5% of every sale made on Sundays. In order to avoid additional
charges of discrimination, this policy will apply equally to purchases
made by all of our patrons including church members, non-church
members, agnostics, Wiccans, Devil Worshippers as well as all
government employees.

Actually, Columbia is in south-central PA, in Lancaster Co.; one of the Susquehanna River towns. The owners are related to the well-known cajun chef, Paul Prudhomme.
Looks like DH & I will be enjoying a few meals out in the near future. I hope they still have gator nuggets.

Update to the story!

Filed by the Freedom From Religion whacko's out of the unions in MADISON, Wisconsin. Read on:

Prudhomme said the trouble started in April of 2011 when she received the first of several letters from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. The FFRF is a Wisconsin-based organization of “more than 17,000 freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and skeptics,” according to its website.

The FFRF demanded that she stop giving discounts to patrons who brought in a Sunday church bulletin.

“I just filed it and blew off the other letters,” Prudhomme said. “I said I have no intention of taking it off the website.”

Last Friday the restaurant was served with a 16-page complaint from the state of Pennsylvania – accusing her of discrimination.

Still, to me, the biggest villian is The Pennsylvania Human Rights Board.

Where is the lawyer that accepted this case? I can do one better!

There is a local mom and pop joint.. They give you a free meal on your birthday..

Last year on the day my birthday fell.. They where closed.. To go to CHURCH!

Now.. I could have gone in on Monday and asked “suppose I could eat for free today??” and they likely would have said “heck ya!”

But I’d rather sue!

(btw... Eating free on Monday was no problem for me. I asked nicely and they said SURE!)

If they use the right delay tactics.. He'll be dead before the case is settled.

Found this bit in the comments at another site. This was the policy before what you posted I suspect.

I emailed the restaurant for clarification about their “Church Bulletin” promotion. Here’s their response:

” Thank you for your inquiry. Anyone may bring in a bulletin from ANY religious group, Synagogue, Mosque, and Mr Wolff was also told HE could surely bring in his bulletin from the Freedom From Religion Foundation and receive a discount....sadly he said he would not take the time.....and he’s never been here before. Anyone else can “grab & go” at any church to pick up a bulletin.”

So this guy is nothing but a whiny bit*hy little baby. Who probably could have got the AARP discount to boot.

Wow! A whopping 10%! That's 5 whole dollars on a $50 tab! Mr. Wolff, a retired electrical engineer, presumably has a comfortable existence. I wonder... what could be his motivation?

Oh yes, the freedom of not being annoyed. One of the worlds most valuable "rights".
