After a Spanish exit from the euro, there would be nothing left to exit from.
I’ve never actually heard the term “total emergency” before, at least not in the context of global economics. It sounds like the title of a disaster movie. When it is uttered in sober tones by the elder statesman of an advanced democracy to describe his country’s financial condition, the effect is rather startling.
The man who delivered this apocalyptic judgment, former Spanish prime minister Felipe González, being a socialist, might be expected to detest austerity programmes that require cuts to government spending. But there seemed to be few disinterested observers of Spain’s economy prepared to quibble with his assessment.

Wouldn’t the viability of this dodge depend on being able to sell these maxed out yachts somewhere else without taking an utter beating? Are there a lot of customers for them in, say, Florida?
I would say 40-45%. There are lots of good French. Ya’ll need to get out more.

For the moribund economies, it won’t help and will probably hurt. The EU will try to bleed the productive economies dry in a futile attempt to salvage the whole mess.
The first semi-functional economy that gets out will feel some short term pain but will be in the best position to capitalize on the inevitable collapse in Europe.
The next one? Too late - they’ll get sucked into the black hole of socialist debt.
Regardless, this is going to get ugly. And like WWII, the trigger will be something that seems small - a proverbail straw breaking the Euro’s back. And it will quickly descend into Hell...
The impression of France and the French here is by far and away Parisian. I actually like the French once you get out of Paris, and there are even decent ones within it. As a group they have an innate aesthetic sense that we sometimes lack, just day to day things are often made beautiful just because they want it that way.

When I was driving us from Love Field (prior to DFW) he asked my father: “Did you like De Gaulle?” My father stated honestly, “No, I thought he was arrogant”. (Father served in WWII in France, Germany, Belgium, Chezkloslovakia) The young man replied “Good”. And did not mention it again until the next day during lunch. He then explained how they lost their property when De Gaulle gave it to the Arabs.
He was not a typical Frenchman. But he felt “work” in our manner was beneath him. He would up in Australia, have not heard from him since. Hope he has done well.

Greens & Blackeyed peas are a tradition in the South but especially in TX for New Years luck. Tradition goes back to when many of the Southerners were starved out of much of the deep South.
Some of my ancestors were born in TX during the Republic, but more came from AL during Reconstruction. They were burned out for “resisting” the occupation by the carpetbaggers and scallawags. They went GTT
Prior to AL they had lived in GA & SC.
That description doesn’t fit most Bavarians, it’s really more Prussian, but that is the general character of the nation. Very procedure oriented, rules are sacrosanct, try breaking one as a tourist and watch even modest, prim little Frauen go all bugeyed furious on you, lol.
We lucked out as far as carpetbaggers taking root anywhere nearby, closest carpetbagger town was over a day’s ride away. The state government was run by them though.
