Russian President Vladimir Putin raised doubts on Friday about the effectiveness of sanctions against the Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad.
'Sanctions hardly ever work in an efficient manner,' Mr Putin said after meeting with French counterpart Francois Hollande.
As Mr Hollande insisted that Mr Assad's departure was a necessary step to resolving the Syria crisis, Mr Putin indicated it was not essential.
'Why are we thinking that if we push the current leadership from power, then tomorrow general well-being will begin there,' Mr Putin said.

He’s right....Sanctions rarely work. Saddam built 51 palaces while under sanction. You simply starve the people and they have no where to go.
