The widow of President Ronald Reagan says she is firmly behind Romney. And she says that her "Ronnie" would have liked Romney's business background and what she calls his "strong principles."

In a statement issued after the Romneys' visit, Mrs. Reagan said she believes that Romney has the experience and leadership skills that, in her words, "our country so desperately needs."

The only time Willard ever voted “Republican” is if his or his family’s name was on the ballot. A no-good rotten Socialist to the core (who lies to widows). Whattaguy.

I’m not implying. I’m accusing. Willardbots have absolutely no morals. Toss mama under the train if it served their purpose. Just look at what happened to the Maucks thanks to Willard.

You are on a site with knowledgeable conservatives.

While it is polite to recognize that of course Nancy Reagan endorsed the Republican nominee (did you think she was going third party?) we conservatives know that she is no Ronald Reagan, and never was.

Nancy Reagan was never a Conservative, so show a little grace and don’t put her in front of freerepublic and pretend she is a conservative icon when it comes to endorsements, and force people who know better to respond at a level that a routine, perfunctory endorsement does not call for.

You show your own ignorance, inexperience, and rudeness by using Nancy Reagan like that.

Reagan entered political life as a Conservative in the 1960s. Willard was raised a Socialist by his leftist RINO parents. He never was a Conservative, isn’t now, and never will be.

A Reagan quote that is very appropriate for today:

(from Oct 27, 1964)

“The Founding Fathers knew a government can’t control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. So we have come to a time for choosing.”[70] He also said, “You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age-old dream - the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order - or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan#Early_political_career

Obama is taking us straight into totalitarianism and government control of individuals.

As Reagan said, today is also a “time for choosing”.

Did Reagan pick Bush St as his VP or not? And eventually his successor? Even at the primaries, Bush was considered from the moderate to liberal wing of the party.

I'd bet he wasn't in the top 5 or possibly 10 of who he would have wanted. But the vetting process goes far beyond the candidates choice. Paul Weyrich explained it years ago. What VP choice really comes down to in most cases is one of whom got the most support. How many will walk away if this or that person is the running mate.

IOW while Reagan certainly had input the decision was likely done by inside party politics a compromise he had to make. Basically throughout Reagan's term there seemed to be a distance the two kept between each other. Poppy Bush basically stood against all Reagan stood for as his one term as POTUS would show.

Mitt Romney was weaned on politics, he was born into a politically aggressive, liberal, anti-conservative family in which dad was a national figure, ending in a liberal presidential run, and mother was a 1970 liberal Senate candidate.

Romney has always known and lived his liberal convictions, and his anti-conservative drive for revenge against the conservatives of the GOP, the Reagan/Palin/teaparty types who he shuns and insults even as he gains control of their party today.

Romney was anti-Reagan, he left the GOP and from 1989 to 1993 only gave money to, and fund raised for democrat candidates, he voted for Paul Tsongas in 1992, he was giving to and fund raising for Planned Parenthood in 1994.

His father had run against Reagan for the Presidency in 1968, Mitt Romney and his father formally protested the victory of the conservatives at the 1964 GOP convention in which Goldwater was nominated and Reagan gave his famous speech. Romney was anti-conservative in every way during the first 59 years of his life.

ROMNEYQUOTES
“Reagan was adamantly pro-choice”

“Look, I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I’m not trying to return to Reagan-Bush.”

“I’m not a partisan politician. My hope is that, after this election, it will be the moderates of both parties who will control the Senate, not the Jesse Helmses.”

“These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense,” Romney said. “They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

“I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.”

Do you think that Mitt was just merely confused a little about his core beliefs during the the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and the 2000s, until 2005 when he started his run for President, the second such run in a row for his family?

“Reagan entered political life as a Conservative in the 1960s”

Considering that he was born in 1911, he was in his 50-s at the time.

“Reagan began his political career as a liberal Democrat, admirer of Franklin D. Roosevelt, and an active supporter of New Deal policies. In the early 1950s, as his relationship with Republican actress Nancy Davis grew,[55][56] he shifted to the right and, while remaining a Democrat,”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan#Early_political_career

If Reagan were running for office today, you would be trashing him.

I suspect Mrs Reagan knows more than you think she does about Romney’s statements and knows more about the threat of another 4 years of Obama than some here at Free Republic do.

I am sure there are a lot of openings available for on line Obama campaign positions.

God knows the commie, American hating, Muslim needs all he can get to try to get a second term to completely screw the country in every way possible.

Hell if you are going to live a delusion and continue to try and help Obama get reelected, you might as well get paid for it like most the liberal children the Soro's group pays.

My grandmother passed away when she was in the latter part of her 92nd year. Up until 6 weeks before her death, she was extremely lucid WRT the goings on in the world. In fact, she was one stubborn old woman, and could argue you to death. She, also, learned to love sports. I never understood her love of watching golf, but did understand her love of horse racing.

I don’t believe that Mrs. Reagan has been manipulated one iota.

How’s the search for Mullah Omar coming along? ;o)

I doubt that Nancy Reagan knows or cares much at all about the details of Mitt Romney.

She may not even know that Mitt Romney has been on a five year campaign to convince America and history that Reagan was “Adamantly” pro-abortion. Romney despises Reagan and has since at least 1964.

She was never conservative, and this was a routine formality.

As you are contradicting what Nancy Reagan said and she knew the man a zillion times better than you darling. Oh the arrogance and denial. It is breath taking. You dear do make a fabulous Democrat.

"If Reagan were running for office today, you would be trashing him."

Nope. Reagan had the Conservative record to match the rhetoric. Your boy ? Not so much. Willard, see, he governs Socialist and tells whatever group he's speaking to what they want to hear. Lies like a champ to all the rubes. See, n00b, I only go after frauds and liars like your Socialist idol. Y'know, those who have the public record to show their failure of leadership and lack of Conservative principles, morals and ethics. The stench from him and his supporters is overwhelming. Like a city dump in Tennessee in July.

Romney versus Reagan??

You mean Governor “Ronnie Raygun” (I lived in California for a while during his time) the right wing Governor of California, deeply hated by the left, and loved by the right, unlike failed one term (34% approval) Gov Romney, the man who hated Reagan and was purely liberal, and anti-right?

You mean 8 years of military service Captain Reagan, who by the second half of the 1940s was already starting to be seen as a communist fighting conservative, testifying to Congress and naming names, working with the FBI, having to carry a gun for self defense from the left, Reagan?

The last time Reagan voted Dem for President was 1948, for Romney it was 1992, By 1952 Reagan was campaigning for Republicans as a “Democrat for Eisenhower”, he kept using that anti-liberal, conservative club until 1962.

In 1952 Reagan was campaigning for Republicans like Eisenhower, who he campaigned for again in 1956, and then campaigned for Nixon against JFK in 1960, already having earned a reputation as an active speaker for conservatism for years.

The Reagan who formally registered Republican in 1962 and spoke at the Goldwater convention in 1964? Romney was already anti-Goldwater and anti-Reagan. Reagan was famous for his conservatism before the Vietnam War, and the Great Society, Roe V Wade, the abortion wars, Jimmy Carter, decades of Cold War defeats, and the radical 1960s, before the Reagan Revolution and the Contract with America, and Clinton, and the Gore election of 2000, Mitt Romney would not even register Republican during the Reagan Presidency or vote for him. Romney, at almost age 60, had a stroke (or something) and suddenly, unexplainedly, became a totally different person around 2006, merely to run for national office.

Reagan and Romney have nothing in common.

If that is the case, madam, that would mean you're accusing Mrs. Reagan of being a Socialist and a complete fraud who would sell out her husband's legacy for a man who absolutely despises everything he stood for. That's a dreadful accusation to make.
