Actually, they may as well have been. The families did not intermarry back then. Furthermore, the Askenasi were originally Khazars who converted to Judaism circa 1200 A.D. - no connection to Israel.

The Khagan Bek (prime minister/chief general) of the Khazar Khaganate, Bulan, converted to Judaism in 740. The empire did not and the Ashina clan Khagans remained Tengists for generations, if not all the way to 1016, when the last kingdom led the Christian Georgius Tsul was destroyed by the Rus and Byzantium. There was no Khazar state in 1200. The entire legitimacy of the Khazar Khaganate (empire) lay in the Ashina Tengrist priest Khagans, who were the ruling family of the previous Kok Turkut. But putting aside history, there is genetics. And genetic testing shows that most Ashkenazi Jews have no Turkic ancestry. Go to Khazaria.com for a summary. There are Turkic Jews such as the few thousand Karaylar (Tatar Karaites) and all but extinct Krimchaks (Tatar Rabbinate Jews). I'm sure that some Bukharan Jews have some Turkic ancestry too. But some distant ancestry means nothing. No one thinks of David, much less Jesus as Moabites.

That’s been thoroughly refuted and a lie only repeated by Nazis and arabs.
