EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- The Memorial Day Weekend has been filled with violence in East St. Louis.
A man was shot and killed at a barbecue on Saturday. Another man was shot and killed early Sunday morning walking between bars. And about an hour later, 3 people were shot at a market.
All the violence follows the Stop the Violence rally in East St. Louis on Friday featuring the parents of Trayvon Martin.
News 4 asked Mayor Alvin Parks if the recent violence has been disheartening.
It's not disheartening, but what you have is frustration, said Parks. Because obviously the right people are not getting the message.

“Do you think these guys know the Commodores?”
Because obviously the right people are not getting the message.
And, just who are the “right” people, Alvin? Sure as hell not “Holder’s” people. Right, Alvin?
The mayor and all the other ‘stop the violence’ people are thinking...we chanted and walked around, what more can we do?
They can’t blame whitey, so they don’t know what to do.
Maybe they weren't buying the hypocritical message that the travelling circus of Trayvonistas was selling. Their effort to turn Trayvon into a saint is falling flat especially in the hood. It's reminiscent of the kids at Trayvon's highschool who decided to honor Trayvon by skipping class en masse and descending upon the nearby Walgreen's for big shoplifting spree. That's how they felt that Trayvon would want to be remembered.
Here is what to do. Stop creating fatherless and broken families.
Holder’s people.
They will continue to blame the 2nd amendment and and not their rotten dysfunctional urban culture.
I guess the rally didn’t work. Try a march
These were murderers, not law-abiding citizens acting in lawful self-defense...probably using guns illegally obtained...
East St. Louis is a hell hole. It makes Englewood look good.
Oh, they’re getting the message all right — that everything is Whitey’s fault, and nothing they do ever matters.
I’m surprised there is still evidence of human life in East St. Louis.
30 years ago I read a story in the WSJ that stated that the main high School in East St. Louis had only one working type writer in the entire facility.
One hundred monkeys banging away on one hundred typewriters for one hundred years... will break ninety-nine of them.
East St. Louis, Libety City are but a few of many places that should be bulldozed down to dirt and forever left empty.
Yep - with no adult male role model, the male child considers himeself the man and his role models are others like him who have achieved older age and demonstrated "potency". Sure recipe for bullying/robbing/killing others and eventually ending up on a slab.
Don’t ever go to a ghetto “anti-violence rally”.
