The stunning expansion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington, D.C., area is profiled in a long, interesting and meticulously accurate CNN story that suggests "the nation's capital has become a Mormon stronghold, with Latter-day Saints playing a big and growing role in the Washington establishment."

"It's hard to point to federal legislation or a White House initiative that bears distinctly Mormon fingerprints," Gilgoff writes, "while it's easy to do the same for other faiths." He cites as an example a recent White House "compromise" on contraception funding, which he says was "mostly a reaction to pressure from Roman Catholic bishops."

Not intentionally ... this time. Just my ADD flaring up. Hey, did you see that?!
Elsie ... can you help? What am I talking about?
Poor thing...you have dodged and obfuscated about every reply we have made to you. Now you resort to the "poor little me, you're picking on me" ruse.
The attempt by a few of you posters to highjack this thread away from the subject has failed.
Name calling is another sign of hissy fits....have a glass of beer and enjoy the holiday away from the strain and stress of mormon defense. Lift a glass to the Founding Fathers.
Since it IS a holiday, chew on this with your beer.

Those who say that in this country one's religion should be relegated to his private life alone and never be allowed to "intrude" on his public activities should study the Founding Fathers. This nation has a spiritual foundation. Its wellsprings are themselves religious. Its life is deeply rooted in faith.
When I became President of the Twelve and Spencer W. Kimball became President of the Church, we met, just the two of us, every week after our Thursday meetings in the temple, just to be sure that things were properly coordinated between the Twelve and the First Presidency. After one of those first meetings, we talked about the many sacred documents in some of the older temples. St. George was mentioned in particular because St. George is our oldest temple in Utah. I had a stake conference down there about that time, and it was agreed that I would go into the archives -- the walk-in vault -- of that great temple and review the sacred documents that were there. We were planning for the remodeling and renovating of the St. George Temple and thought that the records might possibly be moved to Salt Lake for safekeeping. And there in the St. George Temple I saw what I had always hoped and prayed that someday I would see. Ever since I returned as a humble missionary and first learned that the Founding Fathers had appeared in that temple, I wanted to see the record. And I saw the record. They did appear to Wilford Woodruff twice and asked why the work hadn't been done for them. They had founded this country and the Constitution of this land, and they had been true to those principles. Later the work was done for them.
In the archives of the temple, I saw in a book, in bold handwriting, the names of the Founding Fathers and others, including Columbus and other great Americans, for whom the work had been done in the house of the Lord. This is all one great program on both sides of the veil. We are fortunate to be engaged in it on this side of the veil. I think the Lord expects us to take an active part in preserving the Constitution and our freedom.
The Founding Fathers of this nation, those great men, appeared within those sacred walls of the St. George Temple and had their vicarious work done for them. President Wilford Woodruff spoke of it in these words: "Before I left St. George, the spirits of the dead gathered around me, wanting to know why we did not redeem them. Said they, `You have had the use of the Endowment House for a number of years, and yet nothing has ever been done for us. We laid the foundation of the government you now enjoy, and we never apostatized from it, but we remained true to it and were faithful to God.'"
After he became President of the Church, President Wilford Woodruff declared that "those men who laid the foundation of this American government were the best spirits the God of heaven could find on the face of the earth. They were choice spirits [and] were inspired of the Lord."
The temple work for the fifty-six signers of the Declaration of Independence and other Founding Fathers has been done. All these appeared to Wilford Woodruff when he was president of the St. George Temple. President George Washington was ordained a high priest at that time. You will also be interested to know that, according to Wilford Woodruff's journal, John Wesley, Benjamin Franklin, and Christopher Columbus were also ordained high priests at that time. When one casts doubt about the character of these noble sons of God, I believe he or she will have to answer to the God of heaven for it. Yes, with Lincoln I say: "To add brightness to the sun or glory to the name of Washington is . . . impossible. Let none attempt it. In solemn awe pronounce the name and in its deathless splendor, leave it shining on."

I guess you are consistent with your co-horts in failing to notice that the replies your side have made to me have dodged the basic questions I have asked.
But that is the way of zealots.
I could care less.
If Mormons want to be fruity, that is their business, as long as they don't intrude on mine.
This excerpt really is bizarre beyond comprehension.
It made me laugh. It made me sad.
Thanks.
Well, barring some miracle, the choice set before America in November is whether or not to change the guard. How more odious would Obama need to BE before Romney WOULD make more sense?
This is where a dark grey area is entered, since if there are such things as devils that can get invoked through such fruity ceremonies, one would not want to invite those entities.
(Again, look at Obama, though, with his Moslem demons, before committing to NOT asking in the only meaningful manner for the guard to change this November.)
I don’t know first hand Mitt’s own personal view on this particular dead baptism — however he would frown on it if he is in line with a recent memo issued by Salt Lake City that said do NOT do this for anyone whose family doesn’t request it — I’m pretty sure that went for most of the FFs unless they have Mormons in their offspring. Apparently the practice has been getting out of control and bringing infamy on the LDS, with Mormons getting baptized for dead non Mormon celebrities.
I thinbk we've already agreed to this.
Will you agree that MORMONism is bad foir the human soul?
Oh?
Well since I have never gotten a death threat from a Muslim, but have gotten them from Mormons, and have at least 4 friends who have also received bombs/bomb threats from Mormons (3 of whom live in SLC), Im gonna go with Cairo.
Indeed.
I'll assume you just read too fast and MISSED it.
Don't you feel bad about your pasty rant now?
In light of the EVIDENCE presented?
Probably.
Has anyone suggested it?
Do you feel that MORMONism is a threat to the human soul? (Yeah; I've come back arounbd to that.)
Although; these things could happen exponentially.
2/3’s
Remember, this was in the context of the question to note examples of mormon terroristic atrocity in the last twenty years so please don't talk about the "Utes" again.
Depends.
Will anyone besides the nutcases, FI's and ANTI's agree that Romney is either a...
Deceived MORMON
or a
deceiving MORMON?
And so if they agree that Mitt is wrong on a lot of things and that being Mormon has had something to do with many of those things... although frankly I think Mitt is probably INSUFFICIENTLY attentive to the LDS to take a lot of family values issues seriously, and the LDS forefathers would have been scandalized by Mitt’s flip flopping...
does that change the issue about whether the guard ought to told to change this November?
