Beefburger from cloned cow? It is time to question that "Man is the measure of all things"

Many now take up the theme of the religious leaders in calling for ethical behaviour based upon transcendent values in the public place and in the market and for government regulations based upon these ancient human values. We frequently hear from secular leaders in all areas of life including a few top scientists, for example, astrophysicist Professor Martin Rees, President of the Royal Society and Master of Trinity College Cambridge, that Payback Time has already begun and it may be too late to change (Rees, 2003). We are on a course of self-destruction. The threats we create come from human actions motivated by greed and short-term benefits that erode sustainability in human institutions, in the environment and in the community of life. Most people agree intellectually but do little to change.... Alexander Solzhenitsyn, who, speaking at the 1978 Harvard University Commencement Ceremony, predicted the end of Western civilisation. .. His view was that our worldview of materialistic consumerism would fail. He noted that the West was already committed to humanism and had rejected the transcendent values of historic Christianity that had guided Europe and its cultural colonies for nearly two millennia. We now know he was right. Thoughtful leaders in the 21st century are asking for those transcendent values to be brought again into the fabric of life and commerce...We are dipping our toes into an ocean of integrated systems that will take decades to measure and to understand.

Sanctimonious pessimists. Their wailing and gnashing of teeth is an act as they seek to control the commerce that has made them safe and comfortably positioned to snipe at things they do not understand.

The thought process is more than a little flawed.

There have been great strides in our ability to produce enough food due to various efforts at improving the food that we grow. Since Mendel purposeful hybridization has occurred with great success. It is a leap too far to suggest that somehow cloned animals are going to become the standard for food production.

I do not think that man knows everything for that is folly. But I do think that man has the God given ability to improve our every day life.

You’ll probably get to top grade meat grown straight in a vat.

Probably not so very far off either.

A “clone” is a “twin”.

Period.

End of story.

No problem.

Not likely since I only purchase grass feet beef and bison and I buy all my meats at the local ranchers before slaughter. I do the same with chickens

It is not that simple at all! For instnace: We do not know consequences of milk or meat from cloned animals for next generations. During experiments with less complex organism it was clear that clones are weaker than normally grown-up. Food produced from clones cause serious defects like lack of important elements of this organisms. Since an organism of mammal is much more complicated there is likelihood that deformed animals will be born. I am not sure whether you know that GM food is one of mayor of weakening of immune system of humans. Read carefully Dr Hodges article and check other articles of independent scientists and you will find that the quality popular knowledge on cloning is equal to the quality fo knowledge about so-called man made global warming. Have a good day.
