Crossbow.
In Orange County California we had a few miles of degraded coastal “wetlands” but they were mostly dry.
Bolsa Chica to the north, and a half-mile wide strip between Beach Blvd. and the Santa Ana River, to the south.
During the last few years, those wetlands have been largely “restored” by introducing tidal flushing, making them mostly wet.
The change drove the coyotes to move inland, to the residential neighborhoods, where family pet cats have become one of their main meals, ours included.
I saw a youtube video of a coyote strolling down the sidewalk with somebody’s cat in its mouth. Effortless, no fear of humans.
Seen a coyote in my neighborhood just outside of Boston last month that I would guess was about 60 pounds. Most coyotes in the northeast are part wolf. One killed in NH several years ago had over 80% wolf DNA.
Here in Toronto they’re everywhere.
Awwwww....
He’s cute!
Oh, I wouldn't say that. After coyotes moved into our area, groundhogs gradually disappeared. I'd much rather have the coyotes than the groundhogs. I'm old enough to remember when it was just about impossible to raise a garden because of those damned groundhogs.
I love the use of the term ‘climate change’ to describe events occurring 13,000 years ago. The left is losing control over that term and it’s for the better.
22 mag is good if you’re good with 22 mag.

I live in rural Idaho, (redundant!) and I have an understanding with the local yippee dogs...they stay away from the house and they don’t get shot.
I don’t mind them around because they are tough on rodents and do more good than harm. When the local wolf pack is hanging around, the coyotes move out.
Well, we still have both. The groundhogs destroy foundations. We have one that lives under our back deck. The pup may deter him in another few months, since he’s over 90 pounds, already, but a groundhog can be fierce, if cornered. This groundhog was born in our wood pile or at least, took up residence there quite young.
Our coyotes eat deer and wild turkey. We have at least 3 bands around us and they sing, some nights. They are large, too.
Not fond of either species.
We have coyotes come through our semi-rural/semi-suburban backyard outside of Annapolis, MD.
Contrary to popular myth wolves rarely attack humans. the scent of a human is very scary to a wolf. OTH wolves will attack domestic animals at will. The threat from wolves is to them not humans.
I saw one yesterday off hwy 460 near the Virginia Tech farm. VT is putting donkeys in the sheep pastures now because of them.
Donkeys and dogs/coyotes DO NOT GET ALONG.

Most of Southeast Michigan’s coyotes are larger than the photo of the coyote above, they seem to either keep in packs or families. They like to steal and eat small pets. (sister’s cat was most likely lunch for a few)
I had a collie that weighed about 40 lbs. When we would go walking on this same trail she would always chase deer into the woods and then come running back to me again. She loved that sport. One day she started chasing a doe with a fawn. The fawn took off but the doe started chasing my dog around and around in a circle in the woods and was pawing at her. I watched this for about thirty seconds and then whistled at them both and my dog came to me and the deer found its fawn and took off. My dog never wanted to play that sport again and I'm sure she was quite sore after that episode.
A friend of the family had a coyote-shepherd mix (1/2 coyote). We adopted one of her pups (1/4 coyote). I’ve had many dogs over the years and I would say those two were the smartest dogs I’ve ever known — really high-strung, but damn smart. Other people I’ve known who have owned coyotes and coyote-mix dogs have said the same thing.
