I had thought Mets were required to pitch a no hitter before they could host another all star Game. :)

Why not a city with better behaved fans, say Philly?

But you hosted in 1976 and 1996, Mets were delayed as long as possible. They had to get a new stadium first. :)

I would have thought that the ASG would (with today’s 30 teams) roughly visit each ballpark once ever 30 years. If it’s not in any kind of order, what exactly is the criteria anyway? Are some ballparks never going to host an ASG? Are others favored for frequent ASGs?

It’s mostly up to the whim of the Commissioner. Bud Selig is the devil. Worst thing to ever happen to baseball.

The Mets were long overdue for an ASG. Most teams have hosted two in the gap between the Mets hosting the game. Some three or more.

“Details to flesh out who might get All-Star for a given year begins as soon as the Commissioner makes some determination as to which clubs and which cities want to host the All-Star Game, according to Marla Miller, Senior Vice-President of Special Events for Major League Baseball. Each club that is up for consideration is provided with an “All-Star Specification Manual” that details the criteria that a club wishing to host the All-Star Game must meet. Miller’s team starts looking into the details behind the scenes such as Convention Center space to host the 5 day FanFest, hotel accommodations, etc. needed to host such a large event for each of the contenders on the Commissioner’s short list. Feedback from Miller based upon Convention Center or hotel space availability in July, when it is at a premium, can play into the decision making process.

“We’re up to over 400,000 sq ft. that is needed for All-Star FanFest,” said Miller. “If a club’s market doesn’t have that kind of space available for a given year of All-Star, that particular market may not work for us for that year.”

Maybe it’s an affirmative action move to encourage the Mets to go to another World Series and win it. Wasn’t the last World Series they won back in 1969 against the Orioles?

They could try the same thing with the Cubs.

Just funnin’

I'm an Atlanta fan and NYC is not hospitable to the team, especially for Jones.

At the hideous Hall of Shame, Citi Field. I’d rather watch a ballgame in Helen Thomas’s bedroom.

I’ve started a draft Bush43 fro MLB commish. It’s in his blood (direct decendant of Commish KM Landis) and he loves the game.

So far we are a force of several! Want to join our push to “dozens!”?

It’s not at all hideous. It’s really a beautiful park -— and I’m a Yankee fan. I’ve already been there 5 times to see Yank/Mets interleague games. The hideous “hall of shame” park you’re probably referring to was old Shea Stadium, the Met stadium prior to Citi Field which had seating, restroom, drainage and viewing problems all over the place. While nothing can compare to Yankee stadium, I have to hand it to the Mets — they have built a very attractive, fun comfortable stadium that all Met fans can be proud of.

Sad-or maybe happy - to say I remember that first all star game at shea- and as a young man was so proud our own guy Ron Hunt was the second base starter.
