As they come Souf' on US 15 they go through a remarkable area of limestone hills (mogotes) that look exactly like a world famous area of limestone hills (mogotes) in Big China or Cuba.
We've encountered their tour groups several times over the years.
A few years back when I was in the upper peninsula I noticed that most of the people I encountered in the state and national parks were middle aged whites and Asian groups of families.
I talked to the American guiding the Asians and he told me that he’s from Michigan but has lived in Japan for some 20 years. He said that the Japanese are real nature lovers in a nation with little elbow room. He said he ran a few tours to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite etc but the Asians liked the more out of the way places that didn’t get huge crowds. He said there was a great market for hunting and fishing for anyone willing to cater to the Japanese.
