What Motivates the Left, Love for the Poor or Hatred against the Rich?
Townhall.com ^ | May 7, 2012 | Daniel J. Mitchell

I shared an amazing video last year featuring Margaret Thatcher exposing the left for wanting to keep the poor destitute if that was the price of hurting the so-called rich.

Deroy Murdock makes similar points in a great column for National Review.

For too many liberals like Obama, “fairness” is not about enriching the modest; it’s about impoverishing the moneyed. Multibillionaire Warren Buffett has energized liberals with his still-unverified claim that his tax rate lags his secretary’s. …Somehow, reducing the secretary’s taxes never came up. Instead liberals demand the so-called Buffett Rule, an instrument for bludgeoning the successful rather than boosting the downtrodden. …Here’s how the Right should challenge the Left: “If you dislike income inequality, lift those with the least. Let’s adopt universal school choice, allow personal Social Security retirement accounts (to democratize long-term capital accumulation), radically reduce or eliminate America’s anti-competitive 35 percent corporate tax (to supercharge businesses), and pass right-to-work laws (so the jobless won’t fester outside closed shops). Let’s build the Keystone Pipeline (to create 20,000 blue-collar positions right now and lower everyone’s energy costs), frack for natural gas, and tame the EPA, OSHA, SEC, and other power-mad bureaucracies, so U.S. companies will stay here, and foreign firms will move in.”

Needless to say, the left will not accept Deroy’s challenge.

Too many of them care about enriching teacher unions, for instance, more than they care about educational opportunity for poor children.

And most leftist leaders would like to impose higher tax rates on success, even if the government collects less revenue.

Media Bias about Greece, or Media Stupidity?

Today’s a big day in European politics. French voters are going to the polls to decide the fate of Nicolas Sarkozy, the socialist incumbent. I’ve endorsed Francois Hollande, the Socialist challenger, so I’m curious to see what will happen.

The more important contest, though, is in Greece. Voters are electing a new Parliament, and it will be interesting to see whether the two establishment parties (both of which are statist, of course) hold on to power.

The looters and moochers that comprise the Greek electorate are in a pissy mood and may opt for various protest parties.

That’s not too surprising, but the press coverage of the election is a bit surreal.

An article in the EU Observer is entitled “Greek elections to usher in anti-bail-out parties,” and the opening paragraph echoes this title, implying that Greek voters don’t like bailouts.

Greece’s two main parties are set for heavy losses in Sunday’s (6 May) elections, with anti-bail-out groups on the extreme left and right to enter parliament for the first time, raising again the prospect of an exit from the eurozone.

There’s just one tiny problem with the both the title of the first paragraph. Contrary to what’s written, the new political parties are pro-bailout. They are quite happy to mooch off German taxpayers, American taxpayers, and anyone else who is stupid enough to send money (after all, somebody has to finance critical functions of government, such as collecting stool samples from people who want to set up online companies and subsidizing pedophiles).

What gets them upset is the notion that they should do anything in exchange for these handouts. Perish the thought!

If the media had any brains (I don’t think this is a case of ideological bias), they would change the title from “Greek elections to usher in anti-bail-out parties” to “Greek elections to usher in anti-conditionality parties.” Or something like that.

I actually hope these anti-conditionality parties prevail. Because if they get power and say that they won’t do anything to fix Greece’s budget, maybe the fiscal pyromaniacs at the International Monetary Fund and elsewhere will finally stop the bailouts.

Which is what I said was the right approach way back when the crisis began. So maybe after every other option is exhausted, the right thing will finally happen. Hope springs eternal.

To answer your question : Thirst for power and disdain for people in general, to rob the rich and trap the poor in serfdom.

Exactly.

Nincompoops want people to obey them -- it's their only path to consequentiality. Hence, politics.

Well-off people with no problems won't tolerate nincompoops, but will tell them to bugger off. Hence, the well-to-do must be made less well-to-do, and the struggling must struggle in vain. No not-needing-nincompoops allowed!

Further example:

Remember South Park's takedown of Al Gore in the "Manbearpig" episode? That pretty much gets it.

Probably self hatred, hatred of all society, certainly hatred of their own country.

Probably the only episode I ever saw. Certainly the only one I remember. Except the one about the kid eating the gold. But that might have been the same one.

Neither.

What motivates the Left is hatred, envy and jealousness of those who are better than them, lust for power and control over others, the joy of killing others, etal.

Trying to attribute rational motives to them is fruitless and misleading. Speaking of those who arent merely “liberal”, they hate the truth, plain and simple. Therefore their motives are completely irrational. They are consistent, however, having the characteristic that they oppose all that is true and therefore all that is good.

Most leftist voters are motivated by emotion, ignorance and stupidity.

A lot of the leaders of the left simply believe in very evil ideas, and some have simply become that.

“Love for the poor”?? Then go sell what you have..., join a missionary, the peace corps, whatever makes you “feel” good, but do it with your money, not taxpayers. If only all citizens were 10% givers.

Narcissism, envy, and ignorance are the foundational pillars of American liberalism.

Those most enamored of communism/socialism are the least productive members of society who want those goodies that accrue to the most productive. Their agenda is detrimental to a productive society resulting in their attempt to hide that agenda by calling themselves progressives or liberals. These communist/socialists who call themselves progressives or liberals now control both parties and those two parties are rapidly bringing this nation to rule by man, loss of all property and enslavement.

Are we going to allow them continued control of the debate and blissfully accept their utopia?

There are those within this nation who cannot abide a wealthy America. They will forever maneuver events so that our wealth is spent buying what we could provide easily from our own resources.
A wealthy and productive nation never chooses poverty and slavery. They do not desire a despotic ruler.
Communism can only be born in the midst of poverty and misery.
This is all part of the plan and the communist/socialist types have been working the plan for a long time. Communism can not be implemented unless the citizens are hurting bad, abject misery, therefore we must be impoverished, unemployed and with no way out.

Taxes on business and industry were implemented and then raised causing them to leave this nation with our wealth and jobs. Restrictions were placed on extracting our natural resources and more taxes were implemented and again raised. the result was spending our wealth buying oil and metals from others. This is leading us down the garden path to accepting their utopia.

When we quit taxing business and industry, the corporations will move back because “WE” are the most productive workers in the world. When we extract our own oil and metals, we retain our wealth instead of sending it overseas. When we do these things we will be on the road to recovery. When we do these things the communists/socialists will fight us tooth and nail and remember, to them lie, cheat, steal and murder are OK as long as it furthers their agenda.

And now you know the rest of the story!

I Want to See the communist/socialist agenda Crushed. I want to see their political philosophy dead and discredited. I want to see those enamored of it eradicated from the media, from politics, from academic positions, from any position of power. I want to see the adherents of that dead and discredited idea in charge of nothing beyond a gandy stick and acknowledged for what they are.

As mentaly challenged residents of small communities.

If they cared about the poor they would donate more than 1% of their income to charity.

Being a Leftist means caring without doing.

Everyone here is referring to “the left” as a monolithic whole in which every one of them is the power hungry control freaks that seek the power to control and oppress every other human on the planet.

What you need to understand, though, is that there are the “sheeperals” that sit out here and empower and defend the leadership/control freaks for a completely different reason.

The sheeperals, being leftists as well, reject the truth of God. (Rom 1:25 “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.”)
In doing so, they HAVE NO REASON TO MATTER in this “accidental” existance. Hand in hand with this is the visceral understanding of sinfulness coupled with the “intellectual” rejection thereof. They want to believe in the lie that “I’m a good person”, and spend their lives trying to justify that lie.

Supporting people who SAY their motivation is “helping the poor” gives the sheeperals a reason to matter. It’s the same reason they latch onto the Global Warming religion - a reason to matter and a justification of “I’m a good person”.

This is the reason they support redistributionist policies -
“I’m a good person for helping the poor [without any personal sacrifice whatsoever]”
